Job Description:

Mission Hills Christian Church (MHCC) family is seeking to hire a full time Pastor.  MHCC would like an experienced leader who is looking to become a permanent family member in our church.

Mission Hills Christian Church (MHCC) is a diverse community made up of various religious, racial and social back grounds that represent the true beauty of God’s kingdom. The philosophy of MHCC is based on the Beatitudes found in the 5th chapter of Matthew and the service teachings of Jesus found in Matthew 25.  Our worship style is a blended contemporary/traditional with a 70/30 split. Everyone is encouraged to participate by serving in some way during the time of worship as best fits their skills, gifts and desires.  From young to old, everyone begins our Sunday morning service in worship together.  At selected times the young children and youth move to their Sunday School groups.  We have regular Wednesday Bible Study and we also encourage individual and group study.

We are a service focused church family seeking a candidate who can get their hands dirty alongside our faith community.  The right candidate will have the ability to communicate with anyone regardless of his or her race, gender, age or sexual orientation; in other words, we are looking for a “real people person”. We are a socially active congregation with a community outreach program. We need a person with the ability to mobilize resources in order to accomplish Christ’s work. We expect our Pastor to be constantly reading current religious material from a wide range of authorship.  The right Pastoral candidate will lead by example, model our churches mission and assure care, guidance and love to MHCC family members and all others in the community.

MHCC is a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. It should be noted that MHCC is not Charismatic or Pentecostal in theology, tradition or practice.  MHCC has studied the issue and will not deviate from our position.  We are an open and affirming congregation.

Qualifications: •

Minimum of four (4) years Bible College undergraduate.

Minimum of three (3) years of similar ministry experience.

Masters level theological training (preferred).

A visible and growing personal relationship with Jesus.

A desire to continue to grow in knowledge of early Christian history.

A sense of passion and compassion to serve in this kind of ministry role and the ability to clearly articulate that calling.

A track record of building healthy and enduring relationships.

Demonstrated ability to recruit volunteers, developing them into mature capable leaders.

Ability to effectively teach/preach God’s Word.

Lead the church family in the pursuit of a deepening relationship with and understanding of the life of Jesus Christ through in-depth Bible study, ongoing prayer, authentic and vulnerable relationships, and living out the Great Commission. Continue to grow as a leader by drawing on available resources (i.e., conferences, books, mentors, etc.).  Be disciplined and diligent with your time, keeping a good balance between home and work. Obviously there are exceptions in a workweek; however, one’s family should not be sacrificed for the sake of the ministry.  We expect our pastoral staff to model for those they shepherd the kind of hard work and service the church is called.  Pursue financial integrity, humility, and devotion to your family.  Be passionate and self-driven to see disciples connect, learn and grow in their faith in God.  Be passionate and self-driven to see people move from a casual guest to passionate, disciple-making followers of Christ.  Be open to change and the shifting of responsibilities as growth happens and ministry develops.  Be an active member and participant in social functions and interactions in our community.  Attend weekly pastoral staff meetings, business meetings, and be present at each of the weekend services.  Develop emerging leaders.   Cultivate communities where care and support for one another is experienced, conflict is dealt with, and the Great Commandment and the Great Commission is taken seriously.
