SouthPoint exists to Connect the Disconnected to Christ, Community, and a Cause, and that vision drives every decision. SouthPoint Church is a large and influential church in Southern Maryland that is experiencing growth both numerically and in lives changed. SouthPoint’s desire is to see God-intended change in people and their lives by connecting them to Jesus Christ, and empowering them to participate in a God-given cause, in a God-designed community.

The church was launched 10 years ago, by founding and current lead pastor, Matt Hall. Portable from the beginning, SouthPoint met at a higher education center for two years, but quickly outgrew the space and moved to their current location at Leonardtown High School in 2007. Currently, SouthPoint Church is a thriving church, hosting an average of 900 people at two services each Sunday. Spiritually, there is a wide mix of faith backgrounds, with a solid number of first generation Christians attending alongside well-established, Christ-following families of believers. The church draws people from a 25+ mile radius, and is highly influential in the community in which they serve.

SouthPoint Church seeks a Worship Leader who will bring a fresh passion to the ministry with a strong foundation. The Worship Leader will lead a diverse community of followers to engage God through musical worship, and ensure that all SouthPoint worship experiences are executed with excellence through the recruiting, training, and development of leaders and volunteers. The successful Worship Leader will use the various elements of worship to bring the congregation into God’s presence, and encourage and guide worshippers. The ideal candidate will have proven experience creatively proclaiming the gospel, thereby making disciples and bringing glory to God.

The music ministry is an integral part of the Sunday morning experience and is valued as more than simply the warm-up act for the message. The purpose of the worship team is to “engage a diverse church to engage God through musical worship.” SouthPoint values racial reconciliation and desires to be a multi-ethnic church. The musical worship must embrace a variety in musical styles, and the current set lists move freely between Hillsong, Israel Houghton, Jesus Culture, William McDowell, and revised hymns. Although formal education is not a predetermining factor for this position, it is likely that they will hold a relevant degree from an accredited college or university, with 2-3 years of relevant experience to scale.

The prospective candidate will bear the following core skills and experiences necessary to successfully execute the role of Worship Pastor:

  • A proven track record of leading worship successfully in an appropriate church context
  • A desire for diversity and is comfortable with a wide variety of worship styles (contemporary, big band, classical, pop, inspirational, gospel, choral, traditional, etc.)
  • Proven experience leading teams
  • A history of working in multi-site churches (preferred)
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven, and high-accountability work environment
  • Plan and organize in advance as well as adjust very quickly to any change that might need to be made
  • Ability to manage the spiritual, technical, tactical, and numerical growth/health/development of the team.
  • Emphasize health and growth for organizational expansion
  • High-level networking and relational strengths
SouthPoint is located in Leonardtown, Maryland, a Chesapeake Bay community about an hour south of Washington DC. Leonardtown is a transient community due to the significant government and military presence in the city (“3 years in and out”). A high percentage of the church families are active duty military or work in the public sector in some way. Naval Air Station Pax River and the surrounding government contractors are the most influential economic engine. The area is mix of suburban and rural with lots of beautiful trees, water, and open space. SouthPoint currently a diverse community (predominantly white and African-American), which is part of what makes SouthPoint unique and culturally connected. Southern Maryland has a deep Catholic history; the first Catholic service in America was held in St. Mary City, not far from the church.
