Job Description:

New Hope Brethren in Christ Church is a 21 year old congregation situated in the northeast suburbs of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, more specifically Linglestown, Lower Paxton Township.  New Hope is a Community Church with an emphasis on local and global outreach, traditional beliefs with a contemporary twist.  From a small core group planting, by our founding pastor and 20 plus Brethren-In-Christ members, New Hope has grown into a diverse and mixed demographic from all walks of life.  Many of our weekly 300 - 350 attendees and our thriving children’s ministry of 100 – 150 kids, come from a wide range of denominational backgrounds.

Our core values revolve around spiritual growth through the study and application of God’s word; respectfulness of all; living a life of forgiveness as Jesus taught and modeled; and, ensuring that all are accepted, loved and valued as a part of New Hope Church and the surrounding community at large.

On any given Sunday morning you will find our friendly congregation inviting, with a sense of unity and acceptance for all who pass through our doors.  Our contemporary style worship service seeks to prepare congregants to enter into a meaningful and purposeful time with our Lord.

We are seeking an approachable, outgoing candidate for Lead Pastor with a strong commitment to preparation for Sunday services, preaching, teaching and training. This candidate should also be relationship focused and have the capability of leading, inspiring, coaching and providing spiritual encouragement to a team of ministry staff as well as paid and non-paid leaders. Additionally, experience in and a commitment to counseling and visitation is highly desired.

The candidate should effectively communicate with passion sermons that are scripturally based, while engaging & personal so congregants can apply the principles shared to their lives. The candidate should be able to provide evidence of church growth while serving other churches. The candidate should also have the gift to motivate persons toward mission and discipleship within the community and beyond.  The candidate should also place an emphasis on the enhancement of our existing small group ministry and prayer ministry.   Additionally, maintaining the value and focus on our children & youth ministry and adult Christian education programs should be a high priority.  Above all, we are seeking a candidate who earnestly spends time in the presence of God, and places highest priority upon that in order to take our church into the future as God provides the vision.

With regard to local and global outreach, New Hope Church has spawned a Christian non-profit called the Partnership For Hope which provides Christian love and assistance to the homeless, ex-offenders, and others in need within the local community.  Also, New Hope Church has committed funds and resources to a global mission initiative in Swaziland, Africa with the hope of building a church there to serve the Swazi people.  The candidate should be willing to shepherd and support these established outreach efforts as God supplies the resources and funds.

New Hope Church is posting this announcement because our founding pastor will be retiring effective July 31, 2016.  Therefore, this position will become effective August 1, 2016.

If you are a candidate with a minimum of 5 years of experience, have been involved with leading a church of 100 – 300 attendees, who has a seminary master’s degree or higher (or equivalent experience and/or training), with strong preaching and leadership skills and would be interested in a church like ours, please provide your resume to Atlantic Conference BIC, Attn: Bishop Brian Hoke no later than January 15, 2016.
