CONNECTIONS PASTOR  - Evangelical Free Church of Chico, CA


The Evangelical Free Church of Chico (EFCC), California, is looking for a full time Connections Pastor. The Evangelical Free Church of Chico (550 in average attendance) is a healthy, growing, financially sound, conservative evangelical church, offering both classic and celebration worship services. We are on the path of becoming a church of irresistible influence, being both internally and externally focused.


The church has a large gymnasium, a remodeled sanctuary (capacity of 500) and two Christian Education buildings. Chico is a northern California valley city of 100,000 people which hosts Chico State University, suburban housing, farming, over twenty coffee shops, well known stores and restaurants, and a beautiful tree-filled Bidwell Park that runs through the city and into the Sierra Nevada Mountains.


The Connections Pastor at EFCC is to be a networking leader whose responsibilities include equipping and connecting people in four main areas: Assimilation, Growth Groups, Community Groups and Encouraging Volunteerism.


He should coordinate and administer a ministry environment that, at it’s heart, helps people discover and develop a connection with God and others.


The Connections Pastor will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Pastor and in harmony with other staff members and ministry team leaders in fulfilling the church’s mission and vision according to the Strategic Plan outlined on August 30, 2015. He will be accepting the vital leadership role to initiate and offer coaching, teaching/training, organization and support for the Evangelical Free Church of Chico, helping impact every generation to love one another as we:

1.     Seek God and His Plan

2.     Minister to His people

3.     Excel in Practical Application and to fulfill our Mission, “To glorify God by fully developing disciples for Christ” through Biblical Teaching, Community Building and Multi-generational Discipleship and Mentoring.



Connecting people by developing and maintaining a process of assimilation in the life, ministry and service of the church

  • Connecting and tracking people from their first visit all the way through to serving in their ministry.

  • Developing leadership in various ministry teams through training and discipleship.

  • Helping people discover and develop as followers of Christ and as carriers of His mission.

  • Connecting people strategically with their spiritual gifts for ministry by orienting and assimilating them as outlined in EFCC’s Strategic Plan.

  • Assisting with Next-Step Information (new membership) classes.

  • Developing processes to do the above and tracking people by using the FellowshipOne contact management software.

Connecting people in Growth Groups (Small Groups)

  • Owning the process and championing the Growth Group vision.

  • Identifying and training leaders, including ongoing communication and relationships with group leaders.

  • Collaborating with Lead Pastor in the evaluation and approval of study materials.

  • Designing and developing processes of connecting people into and maintaining groups to include:

    • Initiate Growth Group formation and communication with entire church.

    • Develop tracking system to monitor groups, keeping track of their growth, health, and pastoral needs.

    • Developing a plan for the accountability and future growth of these groups.

Connecting people in Community Groups (Adult Sunday School)

  • Teaching and coordinating with Community Group leaders in planning teaching topics.

  • Identifying and training teachers.

  • Communicating with the congregation and encouraging them to participate in a Community Group.

  • Planning community building events within the groups, among the groups, among the congregation, as well as with the community, intentionally cultivating multi-generational connections.

Encourage and structure volunteerism at EFCC and in the community

  • Working with staff and lay leadership in planning periodic events designed to reach and connect with people in the church and in the community.

  • Identifying areas in need of volunteers, implement volunteer programs, and encourage congregants to serve as the Spirit leads them.

  • Maintaining contact and cultivating relationships with various community ministries and community leaders in order to better connect people of EFCC into community ministry.


  • Master’s degree

  • 2-4 years staff experience leading one or more of the following: small group ministry, assimilation ministry, volunteer ministries, spiritual gifts identification and/or leadership development

  • Cultural fit to Northern California

  • Chemistry with staff

  • Computer/technological skills - knowledge of FellowshipOne is helpful.

  • Gift and skill of administration, with strong people skills

  • Discernment/tracking of individuals and ministries toward maturity

  • Team player and team builder

  • Willing to serve for seven years or more at EFCC

  • Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) in doctrine, or like-faith denomination (see to www.efca.org for denominational Statement of Faith or to the EFCC Website, www.efcChico.org)

Compensation Package

  • $50K salary base, commensurate with experience
