The vision of Dawson Family of Faith is to be found faithful as God's people, and it's mission is to become and help others become faithful servants of Jesus Christ.

Dawson Family of Faith (Dawson Memorial Baptist Church) is a large Baptist church, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, in the Edgewood neighborhood of Homewood in Birmingham, AL. The church was first established in 1920, yet went dormant during the 1921 depression. It was reorganized on April 5, 1925 with Lemuel Dawson as its first full-time pastor. Today, Dawson's average weekly attendance approximates 2,500 who come from about a 20-minute radius around the church’s property. There are many members who have been a part of the congregation for many years and have generations attending in their family. Numerous young families are seen each weekend and throughout the week, participating in the variety of activities Dawson has to offer.

The Minister of Instrumental Music at Dawson will be passionate about and primarily be responsible for all instrumental ministries. Dawson offers five service options each Sunday. The early service is band driven and led with current and contemporary praise and worship music. Two identical traditional services are accompanied by a dynamic 250-person choir weekly, and by the 40-piece orchestra bi-weekly. The Minister of Instrumental Music will have oversight of all these areas, beginning from instrumental ensembles and extending to vocalists and special music. As a member of the Dawson Ministerial Staff Team, the Minister of Instrumental Music is expected to reflect the Christian values of Dawson in all relationships at work and the community, as well as in personal, business, and family relationships. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in music with 3-5 years of experience leading both traditional and contemporary music in a large setting is required for this position.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills to scale and complement the aforementioned qualifications.

  • Priority in ministry first, then music.

  • Demonstrated fluency in orchestral leadership in both traditional and contemporary settings.
  • Passion for bridging stylistic divisions with versatile, excellent musicianship.
  • Proficiency and experience in arranging/adapting, composing, and performing music with diversity of styles.
  • Administrative acumen, including organization, follow-up, library oversight.
  • Successful recruiter and leader of ministry participants with a proven ability developing leaders and volunteers (both technically and spiritually) within a worship ministry.
  • Technology-competent.
  • Capable accompanist from the piano is preferred.
The ideal candidate for the role of Minister of Instrumental Music at Dawson Family of Faith will possess a pastoral heart, with a warm, humble, engaging, approachable, and friendly nature. They will demonstrate an attitude of a servant that complements the Vision and Mission of Dawson Family of Faith. They will exercise spiritual disciplines including Bible study, prayer, faith and testimony sharing with both believers and non-believers, within and outside of the church.
