Position Description: Children’s and Family Pastor


Clinton United Methodist Church is a Spirit-filled, Christ-centered church, vibrant in worship and prayer, helping people connect with God. We seek to equip every person to use their spiritual gifts effectively in service, mission, and ministry.


We are seeking a person to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive relational, spiritual, and service ministry for children and families.  This person will serve as part of a ministry team that embodies a culture of teamwork expressed through centeredness, collaboration, creativity, and care. 


This position is responsible for:

Ÿ  Leading comprehensive children’s ministry (nursery – 5th grade) with volunteer superintendents, ministry leaders, and paid nursery staff:

  • Recruiting and training lay volunteer ministry leaders in each area
  • Oversight and hands-on support for Sunday School and Children’s Church (9:30 & 11 a.m.). Responsible for recruiting, training, resourcing, administration, etc.
  • Oversight of nursery program and staff
  • Elementary Youth Fellowship
  • Vacation Bible School or summer children’s program
  • Children’s outreach programs and special events
  • Family ministry gatherings throughout the year
  • Participate with Senior Pastor in baptismal contact, outreach, and education

Ÿ  Supporting lay-led ministries (e.g., men’s/women’s ministry, fellowship/hospitality ministries):

  • Recruiting and developing leaders
  • Attending and occasionally leading as required
  • Assisting with administrative needs

Ÿ  Assisting in collaborative worship planning, worship leadership, preaching, and other duties as needed/assigned

Ÿ  Work 25 hours/week (flexibility required to meet ministry/program obligations)

Ÿ  Attend weekly church staff meetings (Monday mornings) and retreats

Ÿ  Serve on Administrative Council and other committees as assigned/coordinated with the Senior Pastor and staff

Ÿ  Assist in worship at the discretion of the pastoral staff

Ÿ  Assist with other pastoral care ministries as needed

Ÿ  Work overtime as required
