Valley Fourth Church, a non-denominational church located in a suburb of Spokane, Washington is currently seeking to fill a position for a full-time Pastor of Student Ministries.


We are looking for a strong communicator with high character and an obvious passion for Christ. A commitment to reaching the unchurched as well as challenging Christian students to grow in their relationship with Christ is vital. A key value of the student ministry at VFC is a concentration on discipleship with a blend of activities and events focused on middle school and high school students. An ability to engage with and develop a strong leadership team is also critical.

Position summary:


The Pastor of Student Ministries will provide leadership and direction to all aspects of the student ministry. He will create and oversee a process for evangelizing and discipling middle school and high school students by engaging them in environments of Biblical teaching, discipleship, community, and service; recruit, equip, and oversee a team of lay leaders; provide pastoral care to students, leaders, and parents within the student ministry; create and oversee a process to promote VFC’s student ministry and assimilate new students into that ministry; serve as the primary communicator at student events; create and oversee a budget for student ministry; develop and deliver resources to families to promote growth in Christian parenting and family challenges as needed; serve as a member of  VFC’S pastoral team, assisting in various pastoral tasks as needed.



Essential Qualifications:



  1. An undergraduate degree is desired. A degree in Biblical Studies or Youth Ministry is preferred.

  2. Applicant must exemplify spiritual maturity and a lifestyle that strives to reflect Christ in all areas.

  3. Applicant should reflect a passion to see the hearts of students impacted by the Gospel and God's Word.

  4. Applicant should possess 2 to 5 years experience in a church of similar size to VFC (350+ average Sunday morning attendance) as a youth pastor or, upon consideration, as a youth leader.

  5. Applicant must have knowledge and skill in the philosophy and principles of Christian education.

  6. Applicant must be highly relational and have a strong desire to invest into the lives of teenagers and parents.

  7. Applicant must possess the organizational ability to develop and deliver ministry programs, to administrate effectively, and to create and manage a ministry budget.

  8. Applicant must be a gifted communicator, able to teach God's Word with theological integrity and life application.

  9. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to recruit and develop both adult and student leaders.

  10. Applicant should view pastoral ministry as a serious long-term calling and be willing to become a member of VFC upon agreement with our doctrinal statement.





    Essential Duties:



  1. Develop personal relationships with students and their parents, both inside and outside the church, that will guide them into a relationship with Christ and encourage their involvement in discipleship and ministry.

  2. Teach and communicate God's Word to students in a manner that will result in their spiritual growth.

  3. Create, develop, and maintain ministry programs that match the purpose and vision of the youth ministry.

  4. Disciple students and lead them toward a life that is fully surrendered to Jesus Christ.

  5. Build, train, encourage, and empower the Youth Ministry Leadership Team, helping them to grow spiritually and lead more effectively.

  6. Develop opportunities to assist parents and families by providing information, resources, classes, and counsel.

  7. Develop outreach opportunities in the ministry that lead students to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, and that empower students with opportunities to take Jesus to their peers. Work with area schools and other teen ministries to try to reach out to teens outside of our ministry.

  8. Recruit and develop Ministry Interns in VFC's existing Ministry Intern Program.

  9. Design and implement special ministry events, retreats, mission trips, and other experiences to develop evangelism and discipleship maturity among students.

  10. Be involved in the general life and ministry events of the church at large. Attend weekly staff meetings and participate with the Pastoral Team in ministries and activities as needed.




    Supervisory Responsibilities                                                

    The Pastor of Student Ministries will have supervision over those individuals directly involved in youth ministry, whether employed by the church, in the Intern program or adult/youth volunteers.
