Grace Bible Church (GBC) was born over twenty years ago out of a desire to reach Hampton Roads with the Gospel in a relevant and compelling way.


Located in Virginia Beach off of I-264 and the Lynnhaven Exit, the vision is to see “God’s grace changing lives.” They believe that the path to spiritual growth includes: loving God, living in community, and serving the world. At the heart of who they are as a church and leadership is the value of grace, humility, and teamwork. Since its inception, Grace Bible Church has experienced rapid growth, with Sunday mornings sustaining 1,600 attendees, 60 community groups, a thriving student ministry, and multiple capital campaign projects both in local and global capacities. The church’s biblical preaching, vulnerability and humility of leadership, friendly atmosphere, authenticity, and high functioning staff draw both the church and unchurched into its doors.


The Care and Connections Pastor is a full-time position at Grace Bible Church. He will lead People Care, Prayer, Groups, and Adult ministries. They will be a strategic thinker with the capability of building and designing ministry programming as necessary. Largely responsible for the evangelistic growth of the church, this position will offer a perspective of mercy and compassion in discussions and decisions, while tapping into their discipleship characteristics to connect adults with each other and God. He will be a culturally sensitive, wise, mature, and a team-oriented leader who will effectively minister to all adults. The ideal candidate for this position will be an effective expository Bible preacher and communicator with teaching ranging from 4 to 6 times per year. The Care and Connections Pastor will report to the Executive Pastor.    


The successful candidate will have an extensive amount of experience preaching at a large church. He will be well equipped and experienced in leading pastoral ministries, with exceedingly strong “team oriented” principles, values, and work ethic. He will be gifted in shepherding, leading, and teaching. The ideal candidate for this position will posses a master's degree in theology or a similar field, with 15+ years of experience to scale. They will be biblically and theologically astute, carry a mature and seasoned disposition, possess a high aptitude in various streams of communication, and lead with a value for collaboration.


The Care and Connections Pastor will fulfill the following expectations within the first two years:

  • 70% of Sunday attendance in small groups (60% at present).
  • 30% of teaching on Sunday mornings (4-6 times per year).
  • Offer strategic foresight to the systematic development of ministries pertaining to care and connections.
  • Promote and grow the evangelistic reach of the church.
  • Effective staff and volunteer leadership teams in the People Care, Prayer, Community Groups, Adult and Assimilation ministries.
  • High impact preaching, about 4-5 Sundays per quarter.
  • At least 100 volunteers serving in the People Care Ministry.
  • Well-functioning hospitality ministry at the Lynnhaven Campus.
  • Contributing to the Directional Team as a key senior staff leader.
  • Effectively performing “up front” pastoral functions, such as memorial services.

  7. Believe the best. When I experience disappointment or conflict with other staff members, do I give them the benefit of the doubt?


Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront. Area communities have tax structures favoring new and expanding businesses. Both state and local tax rates are modest with credits and other incentives available to many companies. The Hampton Roads labor force consists of over 825,000 workers, where the workforce is well educated and highly skilled. As a result of the large military presence in the region, the Hampton Roads region has a skilled pool of potential workers that few other metropolitan areas have to offer. The Hampton Roads area is one of America’s most popular vacation spots and boasts something for everyone. It has expansive shorelines, both beach and riverfront, numerous museums, opera, festivals, sports organizations, shopping malls, historic cities and towns, amusement parks, and state and national parks. The region is home to the nationally acclaimed Chrysler Museum of Art, Virginia Opera and the Virginia Arts Festival. The region is rich with cultural treasures, reflecting the artistic diversity of its communities.
