Upper Arlington Lutheran Church (UALC) is a multisite church with three locations and 3,900 members across all campuses. It is one of the largest Lutheran churches in the country, with an average attendance of 1,600 on Sunday mornings. Boasting a rich 40-year heritage and a passionate vision, Upper Arlington Lutheran Church is poised for growth and expansion in the coming years. Upper Arlington Lutheran Church seeks a Communications Director who will take the church to the next level. The primary responsibility of this individual is to give overall leadership to the communication of the mission and vision to the congregation and the local community. The Communications Director will drive the process of creating communication plans for the Senior Pastor, and his designees and programs and ministries of the church. He/she has strong creative and technical skills with the ability to complete any job. They will ultimately excel as a proactive team leader who builds and challenges a team of creative’s (staff and volunteer) to new levels of quality, efficiency and effectiveness. This position will have oversight of a media team comprising of staff and volunteers. They will have strong working knowledge of video, web, social media, print, multimedia, and be able to provide direction at a level that takes our church to new creative heights.


The ideal candidate for this position will preferably possess a bachelor's degree, with broad experience and a set of specific skills to scale. The successful Communications Director will achieve the following goals during the first 24 months of work:


  • Create a consistent strategy for media communication.
  • Effectively steward a Media budget of $20,000-$40,000.
  • Offer innovation, and fresh ideas that maximize the potential of the media ministry.
  • Integrate and implement technologically savvy methodology into the ministry, and effectively incorporate social media outlets.
  • Proactively seek out, develop, and expand untapped opportunities of the media ministry.
  • Renew, revitalize, and rejuvenate new strategies that make Upper Arlington Lutheran Church a highly relevant church.
  • A broad knowledge and exposure to the nuances of the current culture.
  • Provide proactive leadership to the church and ministry.
  • Communicate the heart of the Senior Pastor in both verbal and non-verbal mediums (ie. through writing, videos, brand messaging, etc.)
