DIRECTOR - WELCOME PLACE CHILD CARE CENTER

The Director of Welcome Place Child Care will assume overall responsibility for the daily operation and oversight of the
program while maintaining a balance between the ministry and business objectives of Welcome Place. The Director will
ensure that excellent services are provided to the children by highly qualified staff in a Christian environment. The Director
will profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and be actively involved in a Christian church.
Education and Experience Requirements
The Director will meet the following minimum education and experience qualifications:
1. A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college and (3) years of experience in an early
childhood program. Additional preference would be placed on college level education in early childhood
education, elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement, or child development and family studies, and /or
a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
Excellent oral and written communications skills: Able to clearly present information through spoken or written
word; reads and interprets policies and procedures.
Interpersonal relationships: Ability to work well with the parents of enrolled children, Welcome Place Staff, and
staff members of the Southport Presbyterian Church. Ability to build relationships that enhance the operations and
mission of Welcome Place and Southport Presbyterian Church.
Proven ability to build and manage an effective team: Able to effectively manage staff members, and create
positive environment that maximizes results and employee engagement
Ability to maintain confidentiality: Able to be tactful and handle sensitive information and situations pertaining
to child care families and staff.
Demonstrated success in managing a daycare or similar operation: Exhibits clear understanding of managing
an operation like an early childhood development program, knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices,
classroom management, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Directs the daily operation of the Welcome Place Child Care Center under the supervision and in cooperation with
the Business Administrator.
a. Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates the Welcome Place staff. Documents and
informs the Business Office of all personnel changes in a timely manner.
b. Cooperates with the Director of Financial Services in creating and managing the Welcome Place Budget.
Oversees the expenditures of the Welcome Place to comply with budgetary limits and goals.
c. Supervises the purchase of supplies including education material, art supplies, and food items
d. Plans and staffs the elementary-age Summer Day Camp program.
e. Plans and implements fund raisers and special events.
f. Organizes and conducts staff meetings, events and programs.
g. Maintains a knowledge of and information on area day care centers to ensure market position, charges,
staff salaries and benefits and to maximize the financial position of the Welcome Place Care Center.
h. Maintains an understanding of and applies State and other regulations that govern child care ministries.
i. Establishes initial contact with prospective parents; maintains on-going support system for parent and

a. Establishes over all objectives and direction for curriculum and supports lead teachers in planning
developmentally-appropriate curriculum and activities. Establish strong Christian foundation for faith
b. Assigns children to classrooms to ensure age-appropriate placement while maintaining correct child/teacher
c. Observes teachers and support staff at regular intervals to assess completion of goals and objectives
established for classes.
d. Assume role of classroom teacher as needed to maintain teacher/child ratios.
3. Other Duties and Responsibilities
a. Other duties may be assigned from time to time that will enhance and ensure the smooth operation of the
Welcome Place Child Care Center.
b. Faithfully participate in the weekly Staff Meetings and prayer times.
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for the Welcome Place staff. This position is responsible for
maintaining personnel records and providing guidance and work direction for the Welcome Place Staff. Duties include
managing employee schedules, resolving staff issues, and addressing parent concerns.
Work requires substantial judgment in applying well-established procedures and methods, understanding and applying
regulations that govern child care ministries, evaluating staff performance, organizing information for reports, solving
personnel problems, communicating with parents and staff and handling sensitive and confidential information.
Environment and Conditions
The Director will spend over 50% of his/her time developing and maintaining business contacts within the organization and
up to 15% of his/her time with external contacts. The purpose of these contacts is to make administrative decisions related
to the operation of Welcome Place Child Care Center.
The Director will spend most of his/her time in a semi-private office with approximately 80% sitting and 20% walking and
will normally lift less than 20 pounds. The Director will utilize Welcome Place and/or Church Policy Manuals. Office
equipment used includes: computer, printer, copier, fax, telephone, etc.
