Children’s Minister Job Description

Description:

Sienna Ranch Baptist Church is delighted to announce a Children’s Ministry position. This is a brand new position that was created to assist and support in the making of disciples, equipping families, and serving the world through a biblical based view of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Children’s Minister is a follower of Jesus Christ with a God given calling and passion for ministry to parents and children. The Children’s Minister will lead the ministry in alignment with the mission, values, and strategies of Sienna Ranch Baptist Church.

 

The Children’s Minister will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating programs designed to promote discipleship, stewardship, service, and relationship building through thought provoking and spiritually uplifting programs, events, and activities. The candidate will creatively design and coordinate activities to assist holistic growth through curriculum that educates, trains, and informs children and their families. The children’s ministry consists of a committed core of ministry leadership and approximately 35 children (birth-5thgrade) with hopes of growing to 50+.

 

The optimal candidate will have experience planning, organizing, and leading the growth and development of the Children’s Ministry. A passion for reaching children and their families is essential to this role; therefore, the candidate will utilize meaningful and creative methods to reach families throughout Missouri City, Texas. The position may at times be required to problem solve; therefore, an individual with good problem solving skills is a must. The candidate will need to be able to exhibit strong abilities to inspire and build relationships with parents in order to effectively equip them to be the primary faith trainers of their children.  The candidate will provide support and guidance relative to the spiritual formation in the life of children. Ultimately, the Children’s Minister will assist families in teaching the foundations of the Bible and ensuring that children have an understanding of God’s love.

 

Missouri City is a suburb of Houston, Texas, which is the fourth largest city in the United States. It is situated twenty miles southwest from Downtown Houston and in northeast Fort Bend and southwest Harris counties.

 

Essential Functions

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Collaborate with other ministry members to establish goals and objectives for religious education programs and to develop ways to encourage program participation. May determine tasks, priorities, and goals, which requires being exact or highly accurate and critical in considering all components.
  • Confer with clergy members, congregational officials, or congregational organizations to encourage support of or participation in religious education activities with children and families. Includes responsibility for work outcomes and results.
  • Minister to children and families regarding spiritual, emotional, social, and personal needs.
  • Plan or conduct activities pertaining to a **Biblical worldview, which are aligned with the Church’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Coordinate educational programs for children and parents, which include course preparation, instructional materials, and lesson plans (i.e., *Christ Culture, ***Faith at Home, and ****Milestones by way of speakers, events, activities, and field trips).
  • Oversee children’s events on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and other times throughout the year meeting weekly deadlines.
  • Identify, recruit, and train potential volunteer workers.
  • Hire and supervise employees for the nursery.
  • Welcome new families entering the Church congregation and/or visiting the congregation.
  • Publicize programs, events, and activities via social media and other sources such as e-blasts, email, newsletters, bulletins, or mailings.
  • Plan and schedule special events such as camps, conferences, meetings, seminars, or retreats in collaboration with other ministry leaders.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those, which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and facilitate instruction by standing and/or walking. The employee may frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms to grab, lift, and/or carry no more than 25 lb. of equipment. Most of the work required for this position is indoors in environmentally controlled conditions; however, job tasks may be performed in close physical proximity to other people, especially with children.

 

Travel

The position requires minimal travel within the community, i.e., home visits, partnering with fellow churches or church ministries, as well as children’s events and activities.

 Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College and/or University
  • 2 years experience in a Children’s Ministry role
  • Understanding child development
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills dealing with members as well as community participants
  • Passion for Christ, His Church, and the community

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited College and/or University
  • 3 years experience in a Children’s Ministry role
  • Familiarity with implementation of a **Biblical worldview in a Children’s Ministry program
  • Produce events pertaining to real and relevant common day interests, issues, and life lessons with life application components touching and impacting all facets of work, school, friendship, and son and daughter influences.

***FAITH AT HOME:  This is a term popularized by the Orange and D6 ministries.  Faith at Home believes that parents are the primary faith trainers of their children.  Parents are no longer encouraged to sub-out or entrust the spiritual training of their children entirely to the church.  Instead the church works along side parents in the holistic disciplining of children.  Equipping parents to be primary faith trainers is the role of the church.  The Faith At Home motto is:  “What happens at home is more important than what happens at church”.

 

****MILESTONES:  This is a ministry movement founded by Brian Haynes.  The foundation of which is a spiritual formation process from birth to senior adult.  Milestones prepares parents to be intentional in the training of their children by equipping them for each coming stage of development.  The seven identified Milestones helps parents and church family work together in building a faith community.  Family faith talks, capturing God moments, and the celebration of Milestones are important aspects of this training.
