Job Description:

Connecting People and Transforming Lives into passionate followers of Jesus Christ.

First Baptist Church of Jackson (FBCJ) is not a building, but a committed fellowship of believers. It is where a community of believers gather to worship, to learn the Word of God, and build relationships. The church is pastor led, deacon served, and committee approved within a framework of congregational authority. The church has a long history of great preaching that is built around the pulpit since the 1940’s. FBCJ possesses a missional heart and mindset, driven by a worship style that appeals to its multi-generational congregation and attracts a wide range of people. FBCJ does not seek to settle, but progress, while maintaining core biblical values, traditional teaching, and its ultimate mission of connecting people and transforming lives.

In many ways, FBC Jackson is poised for exponential growth. With the addition of a new Senior Pastor, Matt Brooks, into its leadership team, the mission of the church is expected to gain much momentum and unfold at a greater capacity over the next few years. The Student Pastor who joins the team in the next few months will be a crucial part of this focus and join in this endeavor. This position will have a strategic impact on the direction of the student ministry, and serve an expansive role in leadership that significantly impacts not only the forthcoming generations of FBC Jackson, but also its overarching vision of the future.

Student Pastor at First Baptist Jackson must love God’s Word and be committed to leading students in their personal spiritual growth and life-transformation. The student program is designed to minister to teens in grades 7-12 attending eighteen or more public and independent schools in the Greater Jackson Area. The Student Pastor must “bridge the gap” often created when students attend different schools and live in different areas of the community. The effective Student Pastor must bring energy, enthusiasm and creativity in the development of Bible study, worship and programs to support the vision and values of the church within the context of the student ministry. The Student Pastor is expected to teach, equip, and grow students through effective communication of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to expand First Baptist Jackson’s Biblical community among the youth. He or she must be spiritually mature, able to think strategically about evangelistic growth of the Student Ministry, and be committed to support a part time ministry assistant, two interns and volunteers within the student ministry.

The ideal candidate for this position will predominantly possess solid leadership and communication strengths with a solid understanding of youth and youth culture. The Student Pastor will be well versed in cultural issues, and approach them in a biblical way. He will demonstrate the qualities of authenticity, humility, and credibility with a gifting in effective teaching, ministry leadership, and pastoral care. They will ideally possess a master's degree in bible or theology, with seminary and five years of experience in a related ministry environment. Priority will be given to those who desire a long future in student ministry and are interested in planting roots in Jackson, Mississippi.
