  Music Ministry—Worship Pastor

  Contemporary Nazarene

Church Size:

Job Type:

Job Description: This fulltime staff position is responsible for the oversight of two contemporary worship services, as well as being the primary worship leader for these services.  It also involves giving leadership to a number of assistants: 1) giving direction to an Assistant Worship Pastor who leads a classic worship service weekly; 2) working with the Youth Pastor to give direction to the youth worship band, or a trained leader of that band, to maintain and continually develop the musical gifts of the teens and the worship ministry of the youth service; 3) the oversight of the Director of Worship Technologies to provide for the sound, lighting, ProPresenter worship materials, environmental projection worship materials; also the maintenance and improvement of the sound, lighting and projection equipment used in worship ministries.  He or she is to also work with the Director of Worship Technologies to select and train volunteers to staff all worship ministry tech support.  4) This position also includes the video and CD recording ministries and a close working relationship with the Director of Video Production for weekly worship and message editing and reproduction.  5) He or she must also work with and recruit those who will serve in these ministries. 6) This position also includes giving direction and development of leadership for yearly musical and drama events such as seasonal celebrations, quarterly worship concerts and special guest artist events.

Qualifications:  Minimum qualifications for this position are a bachelor degree in music, worship studies or related field (or the equivalent documented experience).  Mastery of guitar and/or keyboard (both are desirable), and the ability to lead vocally while playing these instruments, is required.   Gifted vocal ability is, of course, required; and the ability to give direction to vocal worship team members in singing parts and matching contemporary rhythms is also necessary.  It is also required that the Worship Pastor have the expertise to give direction to all band members so as to create a complimentary arrangement of the interaction of the instrumentalists to bring a high level of excellence to the worship music and experience.  The ability to read music and produce chord charts for all band instruments is also necessary.

While musical excellence is of high importance, a philosophy of worship that is centered on creating a worship experience for the congregation, where Christ is exalted and truth is intrinsic and endemic in the whole worship celebration, is primary: worship is about Christ not the performers.  Candidates must have a calling to lead people to the Cross and the Empty Tomb through the power of contemporary worship and to seek the spiritual formation of the congregation.  The ability to incorporate music from previous worship eras (i.e. hymns) in a contemporary manner is also desirable (no chronological snobberyJ).  The Worship Pastor must also be a spiritual leader, pastor and mentor to those on his various ministry teams and should be a model of preferring others and valuing their contribution and their continued development.

Personal Attributes and Faith:  This position calls for servant leadership skills and a willingness to be a positive team player with all the other staff members: both pastoral and support staff.  Any person seeking to apply must have a strong relationship of love and commitment to Jesus Christ, subscribe to and embrace New Hope Fellowship’s core doctrines of faith and practice (see:; What We Believe) and have a passionate desire to please Jesus Christ 24/7.

Campus and Culture:  New Hope has a 21-acre campus and is in the process of adding a three million dollar worship and multipurpose addition to its facilities.  It is a family-oriented community of faith with strong representation from all generations.  New Hope members come from a large variety of religious and cultural backgrounds.  The church was established in 2001 and the Lead Pastor and several of the staff members have been in place for nearly 14 years.  New Hope is a place you come to and love to stay.

Doctrine: We are evangelical and believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, the Trinity, the full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ and the personality of the Holy Spirit.  While we are Wesleyan in doctrine, people from all backgrounds who love Jesus Christ and His truth find a home at New Hope Fellowship.  Acquaintance with our doctrinal culture would be an advantage.

Position Reports to: Both the Lead Pastor/Teacher and the Executive Pastor.

Position Mission: To provide passionate pastoral leadership to select ministries which seek to disciple adults and youth toward a lifestyle of ongoing worship and personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Salary and Benefits:  This position is competitively compensated at $45,000 to $60,000 as a full package (according to qualifications), including medical insurance.

Contact:  Send resume, picture of yourself (if married, include your wife or husband and any children) and a video of you leading worship.  You may use a YouTube link or Facebook link to a worship leading video(s).  Also, send any worship CD’s or recordings if you have them.  Include a brief description of your calling, heart for and philosophy of worship (if not included in your resume).  Email to:, or snail mail to: New Hope Fellowship, 3900 SW Citrus Blvd, Palm City, Florida, 34990.  NO CALLS, please. (While we love people, we do have a process in place which we wish to follow.)
