Worship and Arts Director at Chelten

You’ll take this position only if you can’t stand that the world doesn’t worship Christ.

After living in a broken world for a week, and participating in our share of brokenness, we all need to meet with a God who loves us, meets with us, convicts us and comforts us through his gospel. The responsive gratitude that comes from engaging with him, must be experienced throughout the entire Worship Service so deeply that it lingers, informing and influencing our worship throughout the following week.

The Worship and Arts Director takes his or her passion for Christ, nurtures and develops a team into that passion so that together they lead the larger community into meeting with the Triune God through the vehicle of music and other artistic avenues.

You will work most closely with and report directly to the Senior Pastor of Worship who is responsible for the public worship services, which are primarily held on Sunday mornings. You will also work closely with the Pastor of Ministry Development who oversees the process whereby someone goes from being a first time guest to a fully engaged member of the Chelten community. In addition, you will meet each week with the Sermon Preparation Team, consisting of the other pastors and ministry directors.

Chelten is a regional teaching church with a local mercy footprint, such that all of our ministries are characterized by their rich content that connects every aspect of life, whether physical or spiritual, to the gospel of Christ found in the scriptures. We long to see each of us equipped to interact with God’s Spirit who empowers us to be what the Father calls us to be: persons who increasingly love him and are becoming more like him. One of the key places this transformation happens is in our corporate worship.

While we understand that every service is unique, you will be responsible for seeing that the following elements are a regular part of the worshipping community’s experience:

  • Welcome – prepare our hearts for worship
  • Engage – invite us to see Christ, our need of him, experience the challenge of his call, receive the comfort of his gospel and rejoice in his provision
  • Respond – provide an opportunity for us to engage with Christ after having seen him more clearly in the scripture (confessing sin, repenting of idolatry, rejoicing in his provision, celebrating his love, marveling at his greatness)

Demographically, Chelten is a medium-to-large congregation (500+ who meet in two separate services), diverse in age range (running from birth to people in their 90’s) with an emphasis on being able to reach a contemporary, unchurched population. We are located in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia, an ethnically diverse area, composed of a mixture of professionals and tradesmen.
