The Assistant for Youth Ministry must have a commitment to Christ-centered spiritual

development. This person is responsible for overseeing and implementing religious formation and activities for Parish youth from 6-12th grade. The goal of this ministry is to engage, inspire and enable the youth to lead a life in Jesus Christ, with the traditions of the Episcopal Church strongly in mind. This job requires keen organizational skills, a spirit of teamwork, strong written and oral communication skills, a sense of humor, and a sincere love for all of God’s children, of all ages.


This is a salaried staff position with benefit option for approximately 30 hours per week. The Assistant for Youth Ministry is expected to be present on Sunday morning, at other times that

youth programs are scheduled, and when relevant staff and committee meetings are

held.  Salary will be contractually agreed upon at the outset of employment, and will be

reviewed annually.



  • To enhance and expand existing religious formation programs for youth and develop flexible and creative programs that can evolve with the changing demographics of a growing parish.
  • To recruit, train and supervise volunteers.
  • To work closely with other staff and clergy to optimize interaction and ministry with the Parish Day School family.
  • To work closely with the Assistant for Family Ministry.  



  • Experience in the development of youth programs in a volunteer or professional capacity.
  • Teaching experience, preferred.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of wide variety of age-appropriate formation programs, an asset.
  • Familiarity with Rite-13, and Journey to Adulthood programs.
  • Familiarity with the liturgical cycle of the church year and the Revised Common Lectionary.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills, including:  experience in a leadership position; working with volunteers; recruiting, training and supporting team teaching.




1. Christian Formation

  • Provide direction, guidance, and vision for the following areas:

- Sunday formation classes for grades 6 through 12.

- Once a month Middle and High School Youth Group meetings, programs, and trips (in the USA and abroad).

  • Plan, organize, and implement curricula for middle and high school.
  • Work with the Director of Music to encourage youth participation in Parish music programs (i.e., Youth Choir, Sunday worship, Christmas pageant, and contemporary worship opportunities).
  • Provide motivation, feedback, guidance, resources, and support for volunteer teachers.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff, clergy, and lay leadership to develop an integrated approach to formation that fosters a spirit of Christian community.
  • Develop and maintain community contacts to enhance opportunities for education, mission, outreach within the community, the diocese, and the world.


2. Congregational Care and Nurture

  • Ensure that childcare is available during all church events and programs.
  • Administer the Diocese Safe Church Program.


3. Worship

  • Plan, execute and/or supervise meaningful worship experiences for youth ministry events, holiday celebrations, and other events, as requested by the clergy.
  • Work with the clergy and Director of Music to plan and execute Youth Sunday’s and special youth worship opportunities.


4. Administration

  • Recruit and mentor volunteer teaching staff and conduct training seminars to keep them apprised of current educational resources and ensure present and future needs are appropriately addressed.
  • Coordinate formation needs, calendar, space, staffing and financial resources with other staff, ministries, and church leaders to enhance the life and ministry of the church.
  • Make yearly input to the parish administrator for the youth ministry budget.  Make known to clergy and vestry unplanned financial needs.
  • Publicize Christian formation activities in the church e-news, publications, monthly newsletter, social media, and outside resources.



  • Reports to the parish Rector.


Weekly schedule (flexible other than Sunday mornings)

  • The work schedule will be negotiated with the clergy upon reporting.
