Job Summary
Graphic design is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. The graphic designer must communicate ideas and messages through a visual medium to a particular audience. The graphic designer works closely with lots of different personality types. This position must be able to synthesize feedback from a number of different sources into distinctive layout; use research prepared by the communications department and adhere to cost specifications. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
Essential Responsibilities of the Position
• Develop design concepts by gathering information and data
• Create layouts for magazines, newsletters, brochures and other print pieces
• Create layouts for websites and digital newsletters or email advertising
• Create promotional displays including signs and signage systems for public exhibition

  • Translate designs across various media
    • Think creatively to produce new ideas
    • Multi-task: graphic designers often work on more than one design concept at a time
    • Use a wide range of media, including photography and computer aided design
    • Produce accurate and high quality work
    • Keep abreast of developments in IT, particularly design programs
    • Work well in a team, with printers, writers, photographers, other designers and website developers
    • Work to tight deadlines
    • Design consistent look and feel with regard to branding guidelines
  • Works within project management system to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to design for different age groups
  • Knowledge of current design trends – in print, web, and video

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field

Related Work Experience
• Brand knowledge incorporated into concepts following brand guidelines
• Have a solid understanding of color, line, composition and design
• Take an idea—a concept—and communicate that idea in a way that informs and/or entertains visually
• Skilled in utilizing audiovisual technologies, animation, digital photography and other multimedia techniques
• To learn, adapt and adopt new techniques as they become available
• Able to think visually; to envision a project from beginning to end

Qualifications (Required)
• Minimum five years experience in graphic design in an in-house or ad agency environment
• Experience with web site design and updates
• Experience quoting and managing print jobs, as well as working with printers
• Macintosh knowledge,  excellent working knowledge of InDesign,  Photoshop, Illustrator,  and experience with Microsoft Office
• Organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to handle multiple projects at once/Ability to handle fast paced environment with large workload 


  • Experience with multi-page InDesign documents
  • Knowledge of printing process and file preparation
  • Must be able to work with a project management system


  • Working Knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Experience with AfterEffects/Motion Graphics
  • Experience with Photography
  • Experience with Copywriting
  • Illustration experience a plus
