First Baptist Church of Jackson (FBCJ) is not a building, but a committed fellowship of believers. It is where a community of believers gather to worship, to learn the Word of God, and build relationships. The church is pastor led, deacon served, and committee approved within a framework of congregational authority. The church has a long history of great preaching that is built around the pulpit since the 1940’s. FBCJ possesses a missional heart and mindset, driven by a worship style that appeals to its multi-generational congregation and attracts a wide range of people. FBCJ does not seek to settle, but progress, while maintaining core biblical values, traditional teaching, and its ultimate mission of connecting people and transforming lives.


FBCJ seeks a Senior Pastor who will serve God through effective pastoring and the faithful preaching of the gospel. He will accomplish this as he provides spiritual leadership and vision to the congregation, ensures the health and stability of the congregation through organizational direction and administrative oversight, and sees that the needs of the congregation are met through the various ministries of the church. The ideal candidate for this position will be marked by solid leadership and communication strengths. He will demonstrate the qualities of authenticity, humility, and credibility in both his personal, and ministry lifestyle. The prospective Senior Pastor will be tenacious, proactive, entreprenual, and a self-assured leader with an upstanding character guided by a sound set of ethical principles. Position expectations include, but are no limited to the following: 

  • Develop and communicate the mission, vision and values of the church to staff members, leadership and laity.
  • Provide a solid biblically based preaching ministry to meet the needs of the congregation and attract new members.
  • Plan and lead in worship.
  • Encourage and nurture the spiritual development and beliefs of the congregation through regular teaching of the Bible.
  • Inspire the creativity of the staff to develop a well-rounded ministry for spiritual growth, fellowship, evangelism, mission and ministry. Lead regular staff meetings for team building, sharing, planning and communication.
  • Administer the program of the church by delegating to the Executive Pastor the direction and supervision of staff members, programs, budgets and facilities.
  • Schedule periods of time for study, preparation and planning in order to develop and maintain a deep level of spiritual growth.
Jackson is Mississippi's largest city and also its capital city.
