Jackson Street Baptist Church represents an active congregation of approximately 100 people who have a strong desire to be relevant for the Kingdom of God in this world. We believe this relevance comes from growing in Christ, building a community, and joining
in the Great Commission. We believe our commitment to Christ is represented in how we abide by the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
Great Commandment: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second
is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-39)
Great Commission: “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All Authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
Jackson Street Baptist Church believes that at the heart of our journey we are on is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the story of the Son of God bringing life, hope and transformation into a lost and hurting world. This journey draws us to a community of those
whose lives have been transformed by Jesus and to demonstrate God’s love to a needy world and to tell His story.
We seek a Pastor who will lead us on this journey, whose call is clear and confirmed by Church leaders (Ordained). We seek a Pastor who can help us honor and respect the legacy of our heritage while helping us reach the current and next generation for Christ.
We seek a Pastor with the sensitive wisdom (Experience) to build and nurture growth in a diverse community who is equipped (Education) to help us hold to the fundamentals of our faith as we strive to fulfill the Great Command and Great Commission. We seek
a Pastor willing to be accountable in his faith as he holds us to be accountable in ours. A Pastor who is willing to lead by example, word and deed and especially through exegetical preaching from the word of God. We seek a leader who will help us reproduce
future leaders for the Kingdom of God.

The church is located at 1206 Jackson Street, Scranton, Pa in a residential area. There are many churches located in close proximity,
The property was built about 144 year ago. The present church facility was renovated in 1956. The worship area will seat approximately 550 people and has an up to date audio/visual projection system and two large screens located in the front. There is presently
on-site parking (three parking lots) for more than 150 cars.
The church was founded in 1871 and moved to several different locations. The highest membership and attendance occurred after the Billy Sunday revival meetings held in Scranton in the early 1900s. During 1970 and 1980 our church had an average weekly attendance
of over 300 at our Sunday morning services. Since that time our attendance has been in decline mainly due to deaths and a declining population in our area.
Church Staff (salaried)
Church presently has a secretary who works 20 hours a week, two part time custodians and a paid organist who also serves as choir director. In the past we have had paid full time Youth Pastors/Christian Education Directors. Money is still designated in our
church budget for filling that position with the Boards’ approval.
The church is governed by a Joint Board consisting of a Board of Deacons and a Board of Trustees. The Pastor is to work in conjunction with the Joint Board and the by-laws of the church. The Pastor and his family should become members.
The church has a single Sunday Morning service with traditional music, a Sunday evening Bible study and a mid-week Bible Study and Prayer service. Children’s church is provided during the morning service.
Sunday Worship Style
We have a well-established choir that works closely with the music committee and organist/pianist and provides a musical selection at our morning worship service.
The church supports four missionaries currently serving in England, Cambodia, Taiwan and Alaska and regularly supports other local ministries in our area. Of the four missionaries one is Conservative Baptist, one American Baptist and the other two are independent.
The missionaries we support are all in agreement with the church doctrinal statement.
Our membership is approximately 420 however; attendance at our Sunday morning service is between 100 and 125.
