Director of Music/Organist
First Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith, Arkansas, is seeking a director of music/organist to lead a music ministry within the congregation as well as outward for the broader region. This work will involve specific duties but it also calls
for specific strengths.
The candidate we seek is musically gifted, able to work with many types of people, organized, committed to the work of God’s Church, and is a visionary with follow-through.
*Develops, organizes, recruits and oversees all of the church’s vocal and instrumental ensembles including the adult choir, the DayOne worship band (a casual, blended service), the hand bell choir, as well as special music guest artists. Other ensembles
may be formed which would also be under the director’s care such as a children or youth choir.
*Assists the pastors in planning and coordinating music for all worship services, leading ensembles/soloists, and performing/accompanying on organ, piano, or keyboard as needed or required.
*Plays the organ for the traditional worship service and for weddings and funerals that take place in the sanctuary. Director oversees all that is needed for the maintenance and care of the organ.
*Oversees and directs the McDonald Music Series for the community of Fort Smith: obtaining guest artists; scheduling hotels, travel and meals; maintaining an up-to-date mailing list; advertising performances. Director seeks further opportunities to create
a vision for a music ministry in the larger community.
*Institutes a weekly music experience for the church’s preschool classes and lead a biannual preschool program for parents. Director will also help with the music portion of children’s programming including events such as Vacation Bible School.
Starting salary is negotiable with 401K and benefits; four weeks vacation and two weeks continuing education annually.
