Discipleship Pastor Job Description

About where we are: We are located on the Key Peninsula, a place filled with natural beauty and a laid back, somewhat rural culture. There’s a small town atmosphere here with a healthy dose of independence. From our building it is about 15-20 minutes to
Gig Harbor which offers plenty of services.
Purpose of position:
To provide creativity and leadership in assisting and furthering the vision of WayPoint Church through building and sustaining an intentional model of discipleship including small groups and adult education with oversight provided to youth ministry.
Provide a mentoring relationship to the Youth Group Director.
Provide leadership and oversight to the summer camp.
Assist in recruiting and developing additional youth workers.
Cast vision and provide a healthy structure for Adult Christian Education.

- Shepherding the leaders
- Creating and implementing a clear plan
Preach at Sunday services approximately every fifth week.
Provide assistance, opportunities for development, and direction to Children’s Sunday School Coordinator and volunteers.
Help develop and nurture the Men’s ministry.
Assist with church related events (outreach, VBS, etc.)
Relationships and expectations:
Meet with the Pastor at least once every two weeks. We would like to invest in the growth and development of your personal ministry for the future, whether at WayPoint or elsewhere.
Attend an educational conference each year to sharpen and develop skills.
All work to be accomplished timely and professional with an emphasis on quality.
Work at least 40 hours per week with some weeks requiring more hours.
Performance reviews will be semi annual.
Strong Work Ethic: The ability to work creatively with little supervision.
A completed degree or certificate from a reputable Evangelical institution.
A working knowledge of the Scriptures.
An active devotional life involving studies, prayer and discipline.
Character that is in line with qualifications for an elder. (1Timothy 3)
Teachable and willing to ask for input, guidance and help.
A burden for the lost that is observable in ministry (gospel-centric leadership and teaching).
Five recommendations: One from a pastor or elder, two from friends, one from an employer (if different from your pastor) and one from a teacher/professor.
Salary TBD based on education, experience and need. This is full time position.
Salary reviews will be annual during the month of September.
