A unique element of the church is that it is multi-generational with a highly relational dynamic. The ‘growth engine’ of the church is Children’s Ministry, where significant commitment is placed up developing a young leadership pipeline for the church.


First Free Rockford seeks a Director of Children's Ministry to oversee and coordinate the development of children (ages birth through 5th grade) and to bring them into a life changing and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. The scope and purpose of the Children’s Ministry Director is to provide prayerful leadership and oversight to every aspect of the aforementioned ministry, including program development, mobilization, and training of volunteer leaders. This role will design an on-going strategic plan for the Children’s Ministry within the stated mission and vision of the church and the ministry. He or she will work in partnership with the senior leadership in developing children’s ministry programs that reflect the unique character of the church.


The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a setting committed to reaching the unreached, working within a community, and promoting innovation through collaboration. They will show a high degree of effectiveness in working and communicating in a multi-staff setting. An undergraduate degree with a preferred degree from a Christian university or Bible college is desired. FFR will assist with tuition costs associated with a seminary degree if the candidate desires to pursue such an option, which will be discussed upon the first year of completion in the position.

  • A self-motivated individual with a healthy amount of drive.
  • Administrative-minded and ability to work though others to live out day-to-day operations in an organized manner.
  • High degree of teachability with an insatiable willingness to learn.
  • Ability to relate to multi-generational, and diverse groups of people.
  • Multi-faceted with capability to bear a substantial degree of responsibility.


The ideal candidate for this position will have a loving heart towards children and their parents, with a desire to teach, disciple and direct young hearts towards Christ. They will possess the ability to forecast ministry needs in his/her area of oversight, while joyfully managing the present building constraints. A demonstrated high level of integrity with a sound set of biblical principles is vital for this position. They will have a strong, demonstrated relationship with Jesus Christ, guided by a commitment to following the principles and a doctrine that matches and celebrates that of the First Free Rockford community.
