Care Pastor - Houston Area, TX (12127)

 

We have partnered with a large (3,000+) and growing regional church in the Houston, TX area. The church is very much alive, with a full range of relevant ministries for adults, youth and children as well as the regular experience of seeing people saved weekly.

 

The Care Pastor is responsible for managing the Care Department of the church. They will oversee the provision of high quality pastoral care to church members and their families, ensure the education and training of the Care Department ministry teams and communicate with the Care Department and Pastoral Staff. They will report to the Executive Pastor.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration and Communication:

  • Ensure that all requests for pastoral care are responded to in a timely manner

  • Prepare and/or review internal and external communication for the Care Ministry

  • Attend meetings including staff and ministry team meetings as related to the Care Ministry

  • Be knowledgeable of ethical and safe practices that minimize the church’s liability in the Care Ministry

  • Oversee the required billing and other payments involved in counseling

  • Provide resources, documentation and communication for leadership as directed

  • Develop an annual budget for the Care Ministry area, overseeing the day-to-day stewardship of the budget

  • Refer to local agencies in providing care and rehabilitation options

  • Oversee social media communications of the Care Ministry

  • Oversee Pastor on Call schedule, keeping each department updated with any care needs inside their ministry

  • Provide ministry leadership and development for all ministry teams under Care Ministry, including support groups

  • Provide leadership, support and coordination of the staff’s activities within and related to the Care Ministry

  • Coordinate and communicate with other ministry teams regarding the activities of the Care Ministry

 

Care, Counseling and Consultation:

  • Equip ministry teams to ensure that each person visited in the hospital and each shut-in is offered to receive Christ and take part in the church ordinances

  • Make assessments and/or refer to appropriate internal or external care and counseling resources

  • Provide pastoral counseling

  • Develop, plan and oversee the expansion of counseling ministry through ministry teams

  • Perform funeral services

 

Care Team Leadership and Development

  • Collaborate with ministry team leaders to identify, recruit and train new leaders and team members

  • Meet regularly with ministry team leaders for individual spiritual development, prayer and problem solving, including goals and objectives for each ministry team

  • Provide leadership of the day-to-day execution Care Ministry

  • Oversee the day-to-day leadership of departmental paid staff

  • Oversee and develop Prayer Teams in connection with Care Ministry

  • Model lifelong learning by continuing to grow in personal leadership

 

Other General Responsibilities:

  • Due to the confidential nature of individual membership records, pastoral counseling and much of the correspondence of staff, it is absolutely essential that the Care Pastor respect this confidence.

  • Other assigned duties at the discretion of the Executive Pastor

Education:

  • Bible College degree and ordination required

  • Preferred Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling or related field

 

Experience:

  • Preferred 5 years of counseling-related ministry experience

  • Experience in church ministry

  • Trained and experienced in developing and leading volunteers and teams

  • Trained and experienced in conflict resolution, addiction recovery and sexual, emotional and physical trauma recovery
