Senior Pastor Job Description
The Senior Pastor has the primary responsibility for preaching and teaching the Word of God and the sustaining of biblical doctrines of Uniontown Bible Church (UBC). He will be deeply rooted in God’s Word and able to competently discern and passionately communicate
the Message in a fashion that is easily understood and compels life change. As Uniontown Bible Church’s “Chief Communicator,” the Senior Pastor will also routinely connect the congregation to church leadership and its strategic direction, including ensuring
awareness and understanding of leadership decisions and motivating fulfillment of the Church’s mission and vision.
a) A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.
b) Consistent spiritual and moral character and lifestyle, complying with the constitution of UBC and the biblical leadership qualifications of an overseer described in 1Timothy 3:17 and Titus 1:5-9.
c) Agreement with the doctrinal statement of UBC.
d) Effective leadership skills.
e) Competent in organization, administration and interpersonal relationships.
f) Strong in biblical expository preaching.
g) History of faithful ministry experience.
h) Degree from an accredited seminary preferred.
i) Potential and desire to remain in a long-term ministry at UBC.
III. Primary Responsibilities
a. The Senior Pastor is to oversee the Worship Team leader and Connecting Pastor in preparing God-honoring worship services.
b. The Senior Pastor is to be the primary preacher of Uniontown Bible Church, preaching The Word exegetically, systematically and expositionally in the Sunday morning services.
c. The Senior Pastor is to join the Elders and Deacons in leading UBC in communion and baptisms and, to participate with the Elders, Pastors and Deacons in weddings and funerals as needed.
a. Join with the Elders in exercising spiritual oversight of the church.
b. Leader of leaders who is able to equip, support, encourage, motivate and organize other leaders to lead, plan and execute ministries of the church.
c. The Senior Pastor along with the Elders is to oversee the discipleship programs and systems of the church including children/youth education, family, marital, adult education as well as small groups and teams.
a. The Senior Pastor will be a member of the Elder board. While the Senior Pastor only has one vote on this board, he will be the leader and primary vision-caster of Uniontown Bible Church, “The first among equals.”
b. Conduct an annual review, along with the Elders, of Staff, Pastor(s) and any ministers-in-training.
c. Participate in meetings with the Staff of the church on a regular basis.
d. Be a training and mentoring resource for Staff members and Pastoral Staff.
Shepherding leadership of the congregation in partnership with other Pastors, Staff, Deacons and Elders to include but not be limited to visitation, counseling, and prayer for members.
Annual Review of Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Senior Pastor will be reevaluated after the first 90 days and annually thereafter.
a. The Senior Pastor is accountable, first and foremost, to God and His Word, and secondly to the Elder board and the Membership of UBC.
b. He will maintain and enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities related to this position description through necessary means of continuing education.
c. The performance of the Senior Pastor will be evaluated by the Elder board annually.
