Willow Creek Community Church (Willow Creek or Willow) is a thriving, multisite church with a weekly attendance of more than 25,000 people. Willow has achieved broad, global influence across a wide range of denominations and throughout the business world as a resource for those seeking to implement 'best practices' in the areas of reaching those far from God through relevant, biblical teaching and weekend services, developing impactful teams, providing world-class leadership training, building organizational excellence, and leading compassion and justice initiatives that change our community and the world. Current Senior Pastor Bill Hybels founded Willow Creek in 1975 and continues to spearhead the leadership of the church, alongside an executive team and a broader leadership team of ministry directors.

 

Willow Creek Community Church seeks a Director of Discipleship, whose primary purpose will be to lead the discipleship efforts at Willow Creek, helping the congregation to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. The position is responsible for building the discipleship value at Willow. This includes establishing the direction of the discipleship ministry, developing curriculum, and providing oversight to small groups. This position is also responsible for providing opportunities for people to connect into increasingly deeper levels of community and ensuring the spiritual vitality of all groups. This includes establishing the direction of Willow’s small groups ministry, recruiting and training small group leaders, collaborating with section leaders, and leading Willow’s annual groups campaign each fall.

 

The ideal candidate will be a thought leader in the area of discipleship and must be trained in a variety of methods/models of discipleship and spiritual formation. While education is not a pre-determining factor in the selection of this role, an undergraduate degree is required in a relevant field and a seminary education is preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong background in discipleship and spiritual formation strategies with proven success in implementing these strategies. The candidate will have a proven track record of leadership, organizational development, and effective communication. She or he must have strong people skills and a driving passion to reach people far from God and help them grow deeper in their faith.

This individual must embrace the ability to work well on a team and within a community environment, and be skilled at promoting innovation through collaboration. They will additionally will show an ability to connect across different generations, types of people, and cultures. Experience in a mega church setting and managerial experience in a multi-staff setting is required. The effective Director of Discipleship will achieve the following goals during the first 24-months of work:


Provide Vision & Oversight: Develop a strategic vision and implementation strategy for church-wide discipleship. Work across all ministries of the church, helping them set and accomplish goals as it relates to spiritual growth and discipleship for their specific area of ministry.?
Curriculum: Develop content and curriculum that can be used in all ministries to build the discipleship value at Willow. Create a multitude of next steps coming out of weekend services.?
Small Groups: Create a small-group structure that works seamlessly with Willow’s section community strategy.
