Job Description:

The Early Childhood Director will create a healthy and growing organization of early childhood staff, leaders and volunteers who serve hundreds of kids every week through Gateway Church. Organize and lead a serving network where adults and teenagers are well equipped and inspired to lead and serve early childhood kids while feeling connected to a vibrant team. Coordinate all the parts, resources and people to carry out well executed and dynamic large group services that effectively point kids to small group communities led by adult and teenage small group leaders.

Position Responsibilities/Function

  • Lead out vision, mission, and values of NextGen and Gateway Church

  • Champion the NextGen lead small movement where adults and teenagers are in the lives of every kid. Small Group Leaders (SGL) are: present, creating safe places, partnering with parents, making it personal and moving them out

  • Build/expand a growing leadership team of service leaders and coaches that will support the growing needs of 200+ volunteers in this ministry network

  • Provide leadership and community for Early Childhood volunteers in this serving network

  • Organize and lead Leadership Community (monthly) for the Early Childhood leadership team (working in conjunction with other NextGen Leadership Communities at times)

  • Organize regular connection events for Early Childhood and NextGen leaders/volunteers

  • Oversee an organization of leaders and coaches who manage any scheduling needs for the Early Childhood volunteer network

  • Oversee ongoing recruiting efforts for Early Childhood volunteers as well as coordinate with organized NextGen recruiting efforts

  • Collaborate with the Operations Leader to ensure spotless environments and effective delivery of curriculum, supplies and resources

  • Champion clear, effective and consistent communication to Early Childhood leaders and volunteers in conjunction with larger NextGen leadership communication strategies

  • Champion clear, effective and consistent communication to parents of early childhood kids in collaboration with larger NextGen communication strategies

  • Collaborate with the Early Childhood Large Group Director to ensure excellence of programing, media elements stage design and curriculum relevance

  • Collaborate with the Operations Leader to ensure successful child dedication experiences for families

  • Help plan events for kids and families outside of regular programs as tasked by Gateway leadership

  • Help speak into, develop and maintain all elements that make up the NextGen team

  • Help speak into, develop and maintain tools and resources for equipping parents at Gateway

  • Participate in other church-wide/NextGen functions, events and meetings


Desired Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 3 years experience leading in Kids Ministry; record of leading events/programs with 300+ kids in attendance and 150+ leaders/volunteers

  • Ability to develop and lead adult staff and leaders who in turn organize and lead the ministry

  • Candidate must thrive in a team environment and recognize the need for collaboration (no lone-rangers)

  • Candidate must be visionary, able to rally the troops toward a common goal

  • Candidate must be flexible and willing to take risks. Ministry environments are constantly changing and tactics to organize volunteers and execute effective services need to adapt to these changes.

  • Candidate must be highly organized with the ability to troubleshoot, dream big and have a strong eye for detail
