Job Description:

TITLE:  Missionary Jail Chaplain - FORGOTTEN MAN MINISTRIES

 

CURRENT OPENINGS: Kalamazoo and Eaton County Jails

NOTE: Contact FMM (616.784.4620) for other current chaplain opportunities in MI.

HOURS:

Kalamazoo, MI:  Full-time (40 hours / week; work days and time schedule   variable)

Charlotte, MI:  Part-time (16 -24 hours / week; work days and time schedule variable)

Expected to work whenever their services are needed, though most   maintain relatively steady work weeks. Religious services are often held on   weekends requiring chaplain's involvement. Also, periodic speaking   engagements require evening and/or Sunday time.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION / FUNCTION:

To provide / coordinate well-balanced spiritual programing and   counseling to inmates at assigned county jail in accordance to the FMM   Mission Statement and as permitted by the Sheriff.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES;

* Provides religious and spiritual guidance to individuals or   groups from faiths in addition to their own.

Organizes worship services and group bible studies in creative   and ecumenical ways.

Provide biblical one-on-one counseling.

Coordinate bible distribution and self-study bible courses.

Coordinate library and/or book cart ministry, if permitted.

Coordinate special programs in the jail, such as "Christmas   In The Jail."

* Initiates and maintains communication with area churches that   build relationships that inspire support to the ministry of prayer,   volunteerism, and finances. Includes fulfilling periodic speaking   engagements.

Oversee fundraising activities and maintain donor relations,

Coordinate program for volunteers ... recruitment / training /   scheduling / maintain relations.

Coordinate pastor visits.

* Administrates all aspects of the jail mission according to the   guidelines established both the Sheriff and FMM.

Maintain positive working relationships with all members of the   sheriff's staff as well as with volunteers.

Attends FMM chaplains meetings.

Maintain records as required.

Perform other miscellaneous duties as periodically assigned.

* Abide by rules established by the Sheriff and FMM.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

Chaplain can be from any Christian, bible-based faith.

Chaplains can come from diverse backgrounds. Theological study   preferred, but some may ascend to their position with little formal   education.

Must be empathetic and handle situations of great stress and   sadness.

Solid standing in their Church through pastoral endorsement.

Good physical and emotional health. Subject to background and   security clearance.

Flexibility in work hours, programs, and services.

Ability and desire to work with clergy and volunteers of varying   faith backgrounds.

Experience in working as apart of a team; good communication   skills.
