Job Summary


Capital Christian Center is located in Sacramento, California. We have a 4,000 member church ministry and an 1100 student private Christian school, grade levels preschool through high school. We are a diverse ministry with a rich history dating back to our 1916 beginnings. We strive to remain relevant to our church and school families as our world changes around us. Our ministry is very active in the local Sacramento, California community and also reaches people around the world through our significant global missions focus.


The primary responsibility of the Controller is to provide professional level services to our church and school staffs on a day to day basis.  This position reports solely to the Capital Christian Center CFO.


Duties and Responsibilities


Provide support to the CFO in all aspects of the accounting process including specific tasks as follows:

  • Maintain and process monthly financial close for church and school, producing financial statements and reports for use by CFO at church board meetings
  • Produce annual reports for church membership meeting and for denomination
  • Review and approve:
  • All bank reconciliations
  • Weekly check run
  • Semi-monthly payroll for 400+ employees
  • Monthly Accounts Receivable for school tuition
  • All journal entries for posting to General Ledger
  • Weekly count of contributions processed by volunteers and staff
  • Yearly reconciliation/determination/accumulated depreciation of fixed assets
  • Maintain sound financial polices ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and compliance with all Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements
  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Process Federal/State quarterly/yearly reconciliations for payroll
  • Monitor and manage daily cash flow utilizing methodology developed to combine download of bank information and outstanding checks
  • Maintain/develop SQL queries for Shelby database, working with queries already developed for monthly first time givers, all ACH contributions and tuition payments
  • Working with CFO produce information for and help to compile yearly church budget
  • Overseeing Senior Accountant in production of yearly school budget
  • Supervise and assist with annual audit
  • Assist with annual worker’s comp audit
  • Track and ensure satisfaction of all requirements for bond financing
  • Oversee with School Superintendent and CFO separate legal entities of school Foundation and Financing organizations


Educational Development and Work-related Experience

Requirements, bachelor's degree in Accounting, Masters in Accounting/MBA and/or CPA preferred. Excellent Excel skills required. Experience with Shelby accounting software, or other non-profit church management software preferred. Experience directing the activities of an accounting department, delegation of work to various accounting functions, having ultimate responsibility for all team deliverables. The Accounting/Finance team consists of 8 employees and fully services all activities of our church and private school ministries.
