Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

CityChurch is a community-focused, contemporary, non-denominational church that meets in a vibrant, thriving area of central Charlotte.  We describe ourselves as being “real, relational and religion free,” and since being planted 9 years ago, have grown steadily to about 300 people.  We purchased and renovated our own building during the summer of 2013 and are now entering a particularly exciting season as we will be adding a second service this coming winter in the anticipation of continuing to connect with those who are un-churched or de-churched in our region.

CityChurch was planted out of a contemporary Anglican Church in London (St Mary’s Bryanston Square) and in many ways mirrors the HTB style of church in the UK and the Vineyard church in the US.  Our mission is to help people (a) to connect with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, (b) to grow in their relationships with God as part of a community, and (c) to release them into their God-given gifts.  We want our sweet spot to be the “radical middle,” where Bible-centered teaching and discipleship converge with an openness to God speaking to us and leading us by the Holy Spirit.  We are committed to Scripture and spiritual formation through prayer and Bible study. We want to be a place where people can “meet” God in an authentic way—coming to Him just as they are, and yielding to Him so that their lives can be transformed.  We are grace-led and want to be a place where ultimately, everybody can get involved.

Overall Purpose:

Our new Associate Pastor will join our lead pastor and current associate pastor to form a pastoral team to serve the adults and families of the church in a variety of ways.  Specific responsibilities will depend on that person’s unique gifts and skills, but in addition to teaching, counseling, and discipling, this role will have a distinct component of overseeing the outreach ministries of our community.  This is a critical role in the life of our growing, vibrant church and it will require a personable, motivated and organized individual to help continue to grow the church both in size and depth.  The ideal candidate should be highly competent, proactive, creative and excellent with people.  They also need to be excited by the vision and mission of CityChurch and about serving in a growing and dynamic ministry environment.

  • Must understand, support, and protect CityChurch’s mission, values, and culture
  • Must have an encouraging, positive attitude and be a “go-to” leader
  • Must have the heart of a pastor and have strong relational skills

  • Leading & teaching regularly: including courses, mid-week meetings, and Sundays
  • Participating in connecting with new people, church lunches and assimilation into the community / life groups, etc…
  • Participating in pastoral care, counseling, weddings, funerals, home and hospital visitation
  • Casting and implementing a vision for sustainable and impactful outreach into our community and world.  Managing the outreach budget and growing the outreach culture at CityChurch
  • Overseeing and leading specific outreach activities including monthly outreach events, mission trips and annual service days with other churches in our community
  • Developing a structure to grow and release leaders into their gifts
  • Participating with the lead pastor in staff management, training and vision casting

  • At least 5 years of experience with demonstrated leadership on staff as a pastor
  • Experience leading prayer ministry in a model similar to that used in HTB or Vineyard churches
  • Theological training required; graduate degree preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
