The Meeting House
Job Description:

Note: our church is in the process of being renamed The Meeting House, having formerly been known as Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church. The transition will be complete in the fall of 2015, but until that time a certain amount of wonkiness is in play (website URLs, email addresses, etc.) as we work to get everything changed over.

The story of The Meeting House stands as a powerful illustration of God’s faithfulness, provision, and grace. For over 100 years, God has taken our story and transformed it into a way of telling His story. We long to create a safe place where our friends, neighbors, and co-workers who have been distanced from the church can connect with God and his people. We are striving to be authentic and culturally relevant followers of Christ: local, particular to a place, situated within its culture.

We are a part of the Brethren in Christ, an Anabaptist denomination. The thrust of Anabaptist theology is that we attempt to take Jesus seriously by endeavoring to live out his radical, counter-cultural teachings as set forth in Scripture, and especially embrace the lifestyle prescribed in the Sermon on the Mount.

The Meeting House has seen significant growth in the last 10 years and now reaches nearly 1,600 adults, children, and youth each Sunday. We currently have 4 Sunday gathering times meeting in 2 venues with 3 distinctive styles of worship. In October of 2015 we are opening an additional campus in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. Our sermons are live in one venue and video-simulcast into the others. Rather than growing in one location and building bigger buildings, The Meeting House aims to reach the unchurched in multiple locations.

We are looking for an experienced Youth Pastor with spiritual maturity to lead and grow our student ministries. The Youth Pastor will serve as an integral member of the discipleship team, will be a primary mentor and teaching voice for the high school and middle school youth, and direct efforts to develop and empower leaders (both adult volunteers and youth themselves) in the service of forming and deepening personal and growing relationships with Jesus Christ. The successful candidate will have strong relational skills and be capable of systems thinking.

Carlisle is one of Pennsylvania’s most treasured historic communities. Located in picturesque south-central Pennsylvania, Carlisle’s history is rich. Strolling through historic downtown, one is greeted by unique architecture, quaint shops, and award-winning restaurants. Our community is flavored by the presence of Dickinson College, Dickinson School of Law of Penn State University and the U.S. Army War College known throughout the United States and abroad for their respective curriculum.

Carlisle’s cultural environment is a diverse mix typified by its downtown theater, historic sites, and multi-cultural events. Our location within the Cumberland Valley provides numerous recreational opportunities: biking, hiking, kayaking, hunting/fishing, boating, and snow skiing. We are a 2 to 3 hour drive from some of the largest cities in the U.S. — New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh. In 2010 Forbes named the Carlisle/Harrisburg area as the second best place to raise a family in the United States and in 2015 Livability.com ranked Carlisle as the 16th best small town in the U.S.
