CityChurch is a contemporary, non-denominational church in Plaza Midwood, Charlotte, NC. We describe ourselves as being “Real, Relational and Religion Free.” Since being planted 9 years ago we have grown to about 300 people, have bought our own building and will this winter be adding a second service to facilitate the growth that we have been experiencing. This role, therefore, provides an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual to lead and develop our vibrant Student group at what is an exciting time in the life of our church community. 


Overall Purpose:


The Student Leader is responsible for ministry to the 5th – 12th grade students. In keeping with the mission of CityChurch, he or she will connect this age group to Jesus, help them grow in their relationship with Him, and will help release them into the gifts God has given them. Through weekly gatherings, monthly hangouts, and occasional trips and retreats, the Student Leader will maintain and grow a cohesive Student group while empowering a team of committed adults who will assist and mentor them.


The Primary Role: 16 hours per week (with potential to increase as we add a second service)


1. Planning & coordinating activities that enable youth to engage with their faith and invite their friends including:

a) Weekly Sunday morning gatherings for middle school Students

b) Weekly Sunday evening youth gathering for high school Students

c) Monthly hangouts / socials & occasional mission trips, service projects & retreats

d) Youth activities during important church events (e.g., Big Weekend Away retreat)

e) Mid-week connections with youth (e.g., lunches, one-on-one meetings, Life Group gatherings)


2. Build a team of engaged, trained volunteers that:

a) Encourage healthy mentoring relationships between the Students and the volunteer leaders

b) Support the activities of the Student group


3. Establish and cultivate relationships with parents and families of the youth to:

a) Maintain excellent communication with parents

b) Facilitate parent engagement in spiritual growth of their children


4. Leadership Meetings & Development by:

a) Actively participating in weekly Staff Meetings (Mondays from 9:15 am – 11:00 am)

b) Consistently growing spiritually and professionally, including monthly one-on-one meetings with senior pastor to measure success and growth


The Ideal Candidate Must: 

  • Understand, support, and protect CityChurch’s mission, values, and culture
  • Have an encouraging, upbeat, positive attitude and be a “go-to” leader
  • Show clear evidence of being good relationally with middle and high school age Students
  • Have significant leadership experience with this age group
  • Have drive to expand the current role to accommodate the growing Student group needs, size and mission of the church


Reports: Direct to Senior Pastor Al Hardy

Salary: $17,100 per year
