Job Description:

Manchester United Methodist Church, a 150 year old, 3000+ member, theologically progressive congregation in suburban St. Louis, MO has an immediate opening for a Director of Youth Discipleship, to be filled by August 1.  This individual will provide vision and direction for all aspects of its 150 student, 6-12 grades student ministry.  This youth ministry has a sustainable, decentralized, small group-oriented structure and solid core of volunteers in place.  The expectation is that the new Director will first learn the culture and structure of the church and youth ministry and then implement their own programming goals.


Candidates considered for this position must meet the following criteria.

Bachelor's Degree and minimum 3 years’ experience in a large membership youth ministry  OR 3 years of post-secondary work (seminary preferred); detailed knowledge of the United Methodist Church, its Discipline, and Wesleyan theology; experience in training and providing direction for groups of 20 or more adult volunteers


The successful candidate will also display aptitude in these areas:

Creative programming that is both innovative and faithful to United Methodist doctrine; enthusiasm for working with students, volunteers, and parents; excellent organizational skills with superb attention to detail; maintenance of a generous ministry budget; knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices; excellent communication skills; strong Scriptural knowledge; collaborative supervisory skills with other youth ministry staff


Manchester United Methodist Youth has a long history of developing strong disciples for Jesus Christ and currently is a flagship youth program both in the St. Louis area and within the Missouri United Methodist Conference.  Its leaders have enjoyed strong support by the congregation, clergy, and church staff.  The new Director will be expected to be effective in facilitating the making of disciples who practice their faith, and this person must model that discipline.  Competitive compensation is provided for this position.
