Job Description:

The Student Pastor is responsible for partnering with parents in leading their students to be wholehearted followers of Christ. He will lead the student ministry and all staff, volunteers, and students involved.

With an average attendance of 1650, we started the Spring of 2015 with Advance Pray 40. This focused time of prayer was to ask the Lord to show our church body how we are going to advance the gospel to Our Church Family, Our Neighbors, Our Nation, and Our World. One common theme in the hearts of our staff, lay leaders, and church as a whole was the desire to reach more and more middle and high schoolers with the gospel. This burden is leading us to commit more staff, facilities, and finances to reach the middle and high school students of Athens and Watkinsville. In May of 2015, we launched a Student Pastor Search Team to identify the leader that God has for this next season of student ministry at Watkinsville.

Athens is about an hour away from Atlanta and is the sixth largest city in Georgia. In the rolling hills of northeast Georgia, Athens and its suburb Watkinsville offer a unique mix of an educated college town, rural family life, and an artsy community. Comprised of Clarke and Oconee County, our community is a short drive to Atlanta attractions, has constant SEC sporting events (Go DAWGS!), and possesses the charm of southern farm land. With great local eateries and a rich local music scene, Athens and Watkinsville are a great place to enjoy the best of culture and raise a family. Watkinsville is located in Oconee County which has a population of almost 35,000. Our county has 2 public high schools, 2 public middle schools, 3 private schools, and a large homeschool population. Clarke county (Athens) has 33,000 UGA students along with 2 high schools and 4 middle schools. With 84% of the 150,000 people in our community not engaged with churches each week, the need for reaching people with the gospel of Jesus is great.
