Job Description:


At West Side Church, our mission is to love God, love people and serve the world in the name of Jesus.  This position has primary responsibility for the spiritual leadership, pastoral care, administrative oversight and organizational direction for Youth and Family Ministries (YFM), sixth through twelfth grade.  We are seeking an individual who will love youth and families by building strong discipling relationships and administrating quality programs which grow faith in Jesus Christ.  This person will work collaboratively with pastoral staff and Session to develop and implement the vision for YFM in keeping with the overall mission of our church.  Special emphasis will include imparting vision, equipping and nurturing ministry teams, shepherding youth, teaching and organizing/administrating staff, volunteers, and programs. 



Church Leadership Team

  • Serve as an active and contributing member of the pastoral staff and Session, representing the needs and interests of YFM
  • Provide a passionate voice for YFM across all ministry areas and to the whole congregation
  • Be an active and cooperative partner with pastoral staff and other ministry teams to accomplish church-wide ministry goals


Leadership of Youth and Family Ministries

  • Know and be known by the youth, their families and the YFM ministry teams
  • Have a passion to play and connect with youth in fun and exciting ways but at the same time being able to lead and influence youth towards depth in their relationship with Christ
  • Nurture spiritual growth through building a strong biblical foundation and encouraging a love for God and people
  • Engender self-worth in the youth, preparing them to engage their peers and community with integrity, solid biblical-faith, and a grace-filled spirit
  • Create a safe environment of challenging growth, encouraging movement toward a place of risk and dependence on Jesus
  • Present thought-provoking, biblical and culturally relevant teaching that develops sustaining Christian values for youth as they move towards maturity in Christ
  • Call, train, and equip teams of volunteers and staff who will shepherd youth and families
  • Develop and implement an innovative ministry that provides multiple opportunities for growth and leadership development
  • Provide effective administration and oversight of special events, mission trips, curriculum, scheduling, communication, publicity, and interns
  • Determine vision, goals, policies, and staffing requirements in collaboration with YFM elders, pastoral staff, and Session to support the vision and mission of YFM
  • Provide pastoral care/counseling where needed to youth, parents, and YFM team members and refer to trained professionals when necessary



  • A passionate love for Jesus Christ demonstrated through faith and obedience to God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit
  • A calling to serve and love youth and their families at West Side Church
  • Ability to teach and equip both youth and adults, with special emphasis on communicating and connecting with youth
  • Ability to inspire and motivate team members toward the mission and vision of YFM and West Side Church
  • Experience working with teens, with a psychological and developmental awareness of the maturation of youth through the teenage years desired
  • Experience leading a youth ministry desired
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field; a master’s degree desired
  • A commitment to the Essential Tenets of the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians


AccountabilityReports to the lead pastor


Hours, Salary & Benefits:  This a full-time exempt ministry position, with full medical benefits for individuals and family, retirement, vacation, and study leave.  Salary is commensurate with experience and competitive regionally and nationally.
