COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR | Highlands Community Church in Renton, Washington


The Communications Director will produce and/or oversee communication strategies, marketing campaigns, systems, website, social media, email and print media in collaboration with leadership, ministry leaders, volunteers and contractors.  

The most important qualification for this position is a heart for the ministry within a local church context.    


Salary, 401K, health plan coverage and vacation time (All commensurate to experience)


Highlands Community Church is located in Renton, Washington and started in 1946. Highlands is a non-denominational, multi-generational, family Bible church that desires to bring the hope of Jesus Christ to help people find and follow Jesus by bringing the hope and healing of the Gospel to our broken world.



  • Work with ministry leaders to develop communication systems and priorities to ensure clear communications

  • Collaborate with Leadership Team to define, develop and effectively communicate key messages to audiences

  • Cultivate, lead and manage a team of communications ministry volunteers and third-party contractors

  • Create and execute a externally focused marketing strategy to increase awareness

  • Capture and share life-change stories via multiple communication channels   

  • Maintain and update church website and social media pages in collaboration with ministry leaders and volunteers

  • Receive communication and technology training via online resources and conferences

  • Publishing and/or release reports and letters to congregation members

  • Produce or oversee contractors to produce high-quality videos

  • Manage and adhere to communications budget

  • Accountable to Executive Director


  • Passionate: A visionary helping the church can be concise, clear and creative in their communications.

  • Leader: Proven leader of leaders, big-picture planner, ministry partner, and motivator.

  • Relational: Experienced in working with leadership and act as an advocate for effective communications.

  • Editor: Serves as the gatekeeper for print and electronic communications.

  • Proficiency: Must be extremely comfortable working with computers and design softwares.

  • Teacher: Receives and demonstrates ability to educate people on the essentials of communication.


  • Meets the biblical requirements to be a deacon or deaconess.

  • Maintains daily devotional life of prayer, Bible study, and Scripture meditation.

  • Sees first to the health of his or her family.

  • Actively builds friendships with the lost and shares his faith.

  • Attends weekly Lead Team meetings, staff prayer meetings, and retreats.

  • Is involved in personal discipleship of people on their ministry team.


Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in marketing, branding, communications, and journalistic education fields.
