In August of 1982, the founding pastors, Arlie and Jerrie Whitlow and their four children moved to Sterling, Virginia, to plant a non-denominational church. The first service for Community Church was held on September 14, 1982, with 35 people in attendance.  While there was neither a church building nor assets, there was a vision that God would help them raise up a community where people could know Him and grow their families in a Godly environment. Community Church started with a few families meeting together on Sunday mornings in a rented elementary school gymnasium.  Today, thousands of people walk through the doors to be inspired, taught, and refreshed in worship and through ministries.  Lives are being touched and changed as people of all ages and backgrounds are coming to know Jesus in a real and relevant way.

Current Lead Pastors, Charlie and Jill Whitlow grew up in Loudin County and started their role at Community Church in 2009.  As the primary communicators and vision-casters, they lead the church to be a place where people can meet God, meet friends, and live life better. Community Church is located in an ideal, high growth area in Ashburn, VA near the intersection of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Claiborne Parkway.

The High School Minister at Community Church will lead the Fire Escape (FE) Student Ministry by challenging high school students to take ownership of their faith and make significant strides in growing their relationship with God.  They will be responsible for all of the high school ministry activities and community groups. The successful candidate will think strategically about the evangelistic growth of the high school group, while maintaining relationships with students and parents and working collaboratively with student ministry volunteers and lay leadership.  They will be the primary communicator for high school gatherings, as well as the champion for development of community through small groups. They will also be responsible for spearheading, visioning, and implementing creative and compelling outreach events to connect with new students.  The church desires to see the high school ministry grow and serve, not only inside the church, but also out in their community together.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years proven experience in leading a large student ministry with a significant number of volunteers.  They will be committed to reaching the unreached with a high degree of innovation, recruitment, and retention of new members and volunteers.  Experience in creative thinking, problem solving, and collaborative leadership in a fast-paced innovative environment is strongly preferred. While the ability to communicate and disciple well is a must, the successful candidate must have a deep love for unchurched students and a passion for leading them to faith in Christ. Experience in conceiving and producing effective large-scale outreach or other events a must.

Bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains and Potomac River, Loudoun is widely known for its beautiful scenery, rich history, and strong sense of community.  For more than two centuries, agriculture was the dominant way of life in Loudoun County. For many years, it had a relatively constant population of about 20,000. That began to change in the early 1960’s, when the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area began a period of rapid growth. Major road improvements made commuting from Loudoun County much easier, attracting more and more people to the eastern part of the county. In the last three decades, the population of Loudoun County has nearly quadrupled.

Today, Loudoun County is a growing, dynamic county of about 330,000 people. Loudoun is known for its beautiful scenery, rich history, healthy diversity of expanding business opportunities, comfortable neighborhoods, and high quality public services, including a first-rate educational system.
