Founded in 1855, St. Mark’s Church is a congregation that is rich in history and heritage, with a sprawling campus of beautiful brick structures that includes a well-preserved, stained glass chapel and a multi-level, 1,100 seat auditorium. With a vision and mission to ‘make Jesus famous,’ Bob Disher has led St. Mark’s Church for the past 30 years. After being greatly impacted by the Willow Creek movement, he began molding St. Mark’s into a place serious about remaining relevant to an un-churched culture in a region that is typically steeped in tradition.

St. Mark’s Church has a worship environment and DNA that is ‘in touch’ with real life and impacts their community with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in relevant ways. As an interdenominational church whose imprint throughout the city of Burlington, North Carolina, is undeniable, St. Mark’s Church is a perfect place for leaders who have a deep love for the broken, and are committed to developing fruit-bearing relationships with those who are far from God.

The primary purpose of the Children’s Director is to creatively wire the Children’s Ministry (grades 1st-4th) of St. Mark Church to reach every family within its circle of influence, through the implementation of its weekend environments and Family Ministry mile markers. The successful candidate will be able to provide and foster large and small group environments that engage children with biblical truth and nurturing relationships.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of growing a ministry in a community setting that has interactions with people from multi-generational backgrounds and economic statuses. The candidate will have had experience working as an effective leader of ministry teams, with the responsibility of providing vision for volunteers, and the ability to develop and monitor a vibrant, creative, and attractive children’s ministry that is equally focused on family-based discipleship. While education is not a predetermining factor in the selection of a new Children’s Director, the successful candidate must be one who has demonstrated several years of development and administrative oversight in full-time ministry. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Bible college or seminary is preferred.
