Job Description:



At West Side Church, our mission is to love God, love people and serve the world in the name of Jesus.  This position has primary responsibility for the spiritual leadership, pastoral care, administrative oversight and organizational direction for Children and Family Ministries (CFM), birth through fifth grade.  We are seeking an individual who will love children and families by building strong discipling relationships and administrating quality programs which grow faith in Jesus Christ.  This person will work collaboratively with pastoral staff and Session to develop and implement the vision for CFM in keeping with the overall mission of our church.  Special emphasis will include imparting vision, equipping and nurturing ministry teams, and organizing/administrating staff, volunteers, and programs. 



Church Leadership Team

  • Serve as an active and contributing member of the pastoral staff and Session, representing the needs and interests of CFM
  • Provide a passionate voice for CFM across all ministry areas and to the whole congregation
  • Be an active and cooperative partner with pastoral staff and other ministry teams to accomplish church-wide ministry goals
  • Act as a resource person to the congregation and community regarding the needs of children and their families

Leadership of Children and Family Ministries

  • Know and be known by the children, their families and the CFM ministry teams
  • Nurture spiritual growth through building a strong biblical foundation and encouraging a love for God and people
  • Provide an environment of challenging growth, encouraging movement toward a place of risk and dependence on Jesus
  • Work collaboratively to provide an innovative ministry, striving for excellence
  • Encourage, mentor, and support the families through activities such as Sunday school classes, seminars, training, and fellowship events
  • Call, train, and equip teams of volunteers and staff who will shepherd children and families
  • Provide effective administration and oversight of paid staff, curriculum, scheduling, communication, publicity, child/youth security, and CFM facility area
  • Determine goals, policies, and staffing requirements in collaboration with CFM elders, pastoral staff, and Session to support the vision and mission of CFM
  • Provide pastoral care/counseling where needed to children, parents, and CFM team members and refer to trained professionals when necessary



  • A passionate love for Jesus Christ demonstrated through faith and obedience to God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit
  • A calling to serve and love children and their families at West Side Church
  • A strong facilitator, administrator, and delegator, able to communicate well with both children and adults
  • Ability to teach and equip both children and adults, with special emphasis on communicating and connecting with children
  • Experience working with children, with an understanding of child development and a willingness to grow and learn
  • An ability to inspire and motivate staff and team members toward the mission and vision of CFM and West Side Church
  • Experience leading a church-based children’s ministry preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field; a master’s degree preferred
  • A commitment to the Essential Tenets of the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians

Hours, Salary & Benefits:  This a full-time exempt ministry position, with full medical benefits for individuals and family, retirement, vacation, and study leave.  Salary is commensurate with experience and competitive regionally and nationally.
