Job Description:

First Methodist Church of Geneseo, Illinois seeks an energetic and fully-devoted Christian leader with a big heart for children and their families.  Significant administrative, evangelistic, equipping, and relational skills are required for our multisite ministry’s next Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM).  This full-time position is open to candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, ministry, or a related field.

First Methodist Church has a growing, multisite ministry in Geneseo, Cambridge, and Rock Island, IL.  Worship attendance averages over 600 per weekend and Roots QC, our brand new church in the Illinois/Iowa Quad Cities, will begin holding weekly worship in September 2015.  Our battle cry is “People need Jesus!”  This is lived out by drawing people to Jesus, developing people in Jesus, and deploying people for Jesus.  We are an evangelical, multi-generational congregation with diverse worship styles and part of the United Methodist denomination.

The majority of the DCM’s responsibilities will be at the main Geneseo Campus.  Areas of responsibility include children’s church, after-school ministry, special events, and oversight of Sunday School and our professionally-staffed nursery.  Equipping volunteers in keeping with our child protection policy is also a major focus.  Another desirable but non-essential skill is competence in graphic design.  The DCM will function as part of an energetic staff equipping a dynamic group of volunteers, reporting to our Directing Pastor, Rev. Dr. Christopher Ritter.

Salary is commensurate with a starting teacher’s salary in our school district.  To apply, please send an up-to-date resume along with three letters of reference to  At least one reference should be from someone observing the candidate in a Christian ministry setting.  Applications will be accepted through June 12, 2015.
