Time:  Full Time Exempt

Job Description:

Montgomery United Methodist Church is looking for an energetic, fun, experienced, committed and spiritually mature self-starter to lead and grow a youth ministry, Ignition, for our community (Lake Conroe Area).  This position reports to the Senior Pastor and works independently to engage & motivate youth as well as intergenerational volunteers to support goals and objectives of Ignition.

The Youth Director must have a desire to grow the youth program from the current level, and recruit youth and new families to begin or continue their faith development. Montgomery is a growing community. MUMC wishes to engage and equip youth and parents through our programs to join us in our Mission to “Grow in Christ and Share his Love”.

We are seeking a leader who has experience in growing and developing church ministries, preferably youth ministries.  We prefer a person who has completed or who is in the process of obtaining a theology or divinity degree and has a calling to witness and provide spiritual guidance to youth in our community. This person needs to be comfortable attending community and school activities. A key aspect of this leader is to support young people in their faith journey while being a spiritual guide.

Responsibilities in this Role will include:

Strategy, planning and administration

Volunteer Recruitment & Motivation

Discipleship and Spiritual Development

Programming and Event Planning

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

Have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord as well as a strong

desire to serve within the Church and sense of calling to the youth ministry

Have a strong faith and an understanding of the Bible and consistent with the vision and

mission of our congregation

Have an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of excitement about developing current successful programs and creating new ones

Possess a pastoral sensitivity to the diverse needs of members, community and staff

Ability to identify, recruit and equip volunteer leaders to assist in Youth programs

 

Ability to work with youth and young adults

 

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

Able to plan, organize, lead and guide complex projects and spontaneous youth activities

 

Possess competence in basic lay counseling and listening skills appropriate for youth ministry

 

Ability to work cooperatively with others (staff, church and community members), to maintain a positive outlook and disposition and flexibility in solving problems

 

Ability to protect the reputation and integrity of others through confidentiality of information

 

Ability to use social media as a communication and outreach tool for student ministry

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

Undergraduate degree preferred, completion of college-level or higher course work in Christian education and/or Youth Ministry

 

More than 5 years of proven experience as a leader in youth development, along with proven experience working with adults in a diverse, intergenerational community

 

Pass a Background Investigation and possess a valid Driver’s License.
