What We’re Looking for in a Leader
While we do not have any specific requirements of educational or seminary training for this position, this leader must have a firm understanding of the orthodox doctrines of the Christian faith and a solid foundation in interpreting Scripture and theology
from a Christ-centered perspective.
Similar to the “knowledge” category, although there are not any firm requirements for years of ministerial experience required, a good candidate for this position will have demonstrated the ability and understanding of discipleship. This person will have
valued discipleship relationships in their personal lives and will have a passion for fulfilling the Great Commission, even in a local church setting.
The most important aspect to this leadership position is found in their personal character and walk with the Lord. A good candidate for this position will have demonstrated a growing, maturing walk with the Lord and evidences of His work and fruit in their
lives. Before any of our leaders can successfully lead others, we believe they must lead themselves. Our biblical authority for the qualifications of pastors can be found in 2 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5.
Second is a church that has been experiencing great growth, as God has been blessing the ministry tremendously. We are a church that values discipleship, especially through the venue of Small Groups. Our church has experienced dramatic growth numerically
since our new building and location was opened in 2009. More importantly, we have experienced God’s hand in our church, as our community has been growing closer to Jesus and we are moving forward in our disciple-making mission. We love how God is working in
our church and in Baytown, and we are excited to see how we can be used by the Lord to fulfill the Great Commission both locally and abroad!
Second Baytown exists to lead people to Jesus Christ and develop them into fully devoted followers of Him.
