Job Title:                Student Ministries Director

Reports To:           Craig Fortunato, Community Life Pastor

Position Status:     Lead Director Full-Time

Compensation:      Commensurate with experience



Student Ministries at LifePointe Church, consisting of Middle School and High School students, exists to equip students and their families to become fully-maturing, gospel-centered disciples of Jesus Christ. The Student Ministries Director will have the freedom and responsibility to develop strategies that lead, teach, equip, and demonstrate love to students, interns, and volunteer staff. The strategies need to align with the core values of LifePointe Church: to glorify God for who He is and what He has done, to grow together in God’s Word, and to go to all people near and far declaring the gospel of God’s grace.


Our ideal candidate for Student Ministries Director possesses the following traits:

  • Deep and growing relationship with Jesus and a maturing heart for Christ and the Gospel
  • Unquestionable love for Middle School and High School students
  • Deep knowledge of the Bible and ability to teach and equip Middle and High School students
  • Ability to inspire, connect with, understand, enjoy, empower, and influence teenagers for Christ
  • Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteers and interns
  • Ability to communicate well with students and parents
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading a Student Ministry
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree


The Student Ministries Director will plan for and perform the following job functions:

1. Gospel-Centered Discipleship

  • Provide gospel-centered curriculum for Middle School and High School students
  • Coordinate Sunday morning teaching, midweek student nights, retreats, and activities
  • Recommend books, articles, and conferences to parents to assist them in teaching the gospel to their own students
  • Strategically cultivate the spiritual development of students through specific programming
  • Provide events and retreats with purpose
  • Incorporate student-relevant topics and issues into lessons and studies

 2. Volunteer Recruitment and Training

  • Recruit and manage teaching team
  • Recruit, train, and manage adults to become small group leaders
  • Create a system for orienting volunteers so that teachers, leaders, and other volunteers have consistent training and expectations
  • Involve volunteers in planning and executing weekly meetings and other events
  • Engage with each volunteer relationally
  • Seek to recognize and utilize each volunteer’s spiritual gifting
  • Spiritually shepherd volunteer teams and foster a unity of love within the teams
  • Provide feedback and evaluations for volunteers

3. Consistent Communication

  • Communicate expectations and opportunities of student ministry to students and parents and receive input and feedback on ideas and outcomes
  • Provide ongoing communication through regular calendars, email, text, social media, and other formats
  • Lead parent meetings as needed
  • Communicate with the church staff and volunteers

4. Effective Organization and Planning

  • Prepare and update an age-appropriate multi-year discipleship plan
  • Provide sufficient advance notice of events, retreats, and mission trips to promote, recruit, and raise funds
  • Meet regularly with volunteer staff
  • Coordinate ministry opportunities and plans with other ministry leaders as needed

5. Intentional Relationships

  • Initiate relationships with students of all ages, backgrounds, and personalities
  • Provide opportunities that deepen relationships among students
  • Be available to students while maintaining the correct balance between “youth pastor” and “friend”
  • Attend students’ activities outside of church
  • Work with volunteers to facilitate a welcoming environment for all students

6. Practical Mission and Outreach

  • Train students to share their faith with clarity and sincerity
  • Provide events for students to be intentional in reaching their friends for Christ
  • Communicate expectations of outreach program with students and parents
  • Create special outreach events that are useful, creative, and fun
  • Provide short-term and long-term plans for mission trips to cultivate a Christ-centered worldview in students


The Student Ministries Director is a man expected to demonstrate the following personal qualities:


Mature Christian Faith

The candidate for Student Ministries Director is a mature Christian that exhibits the fruit of the Spirit and is dedicated to leading through change with a level head and good balance of grace and accountability. He possesses many of the qualifications for an elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus. He is a person of prayer with a deep love for Christ, His church, and the local body of believers.


Loves Students

The candidate has a true love and understanding of young people. He engages, encourages, challenges, accepts, enjoys, and shares life with them. He is dedicated to welcoming and pursuing students with different interests, personalities, and backgrounds, showing favoritism to none. He also has the wisdom and understanding to maintain the correct relational balance that doesn’t blur the line between “youth pastor” and “friend.”


Strong Leader

The candidate is a strong leader that provides clear direction to a ministry team of students, interns, and adult leaders. He is able to lead the team in the process of developing long range goals and objectives and then create specific action plans. He recognizes the strengths of those on his team and allows them to use their talents. He is able to cast a vision of ministry that is compelling and inspires others to follow his lead.


Compelling Communicator

The candidate is able to effectively present biblical truth to Middle School and High School students, communicating the gospel with creativity, passion, and clarity. He also communicates effectively in writing on multiple platforms – email, social media, notes of encouragement, newsletters, and other printed publications. He is also able to clearly communicate the mission and vision of student ministries.


Team Player

The candidate sees himself not only as head of student ministries but also as a member of a larger team. He consistently treats the rest of the church staff with respect and courtesy. He exhibits flexibility and compromise and is willing to pitch in when needed. He attends and contributes at all staff and director meetings.


Fun Personality

The Student Ministries Director candidate enjoys life and has an outgoing, contagious personality. He draws students into having fun with him and one another, breaking down barriers in the process. He accomplishes this while remaining a mature leader who keeps the trust of those around him.



The Student Ministries Director is required to possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading a Student Ministry
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Bible training or Seminary appreciated)
