Job Description:

Our Mission:

Stone Ridge Community Church’s mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

The role of the Executive Pastor is to assist the Lead Pastor in overseeing the life and direction of the church. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of Stone Ridge and the ability to align staff and key leadership teams with its mission. The Executive Pastor will offer pastoral leadership to the congregation alongside the Lead Pastor. He will ensure that the systems, practices, and policies of the church responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities.

We operate as a non-denominational contemporary church; however, we are affiliated with the Baptist General Conference, otherwise known as Converge Worldwide.  We are a church that averages around 250 people in our Sunday morning worship. We are located in the northeast corner of Iowa. The city of Decorah has about 8,000 people with an additional 2,000 students who attend Luther College. The town is primarily Lutheran and Catholic. We believe it’s a great place to do ministry because the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. It’s truly a mission field and is so rewarding to see people who have gone to church perhaps their whole life, but never understood what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Every week God blesses our church with visitors who are looking and searching for something more out of life. They come from churches where the gospel was not preached and they attended out of guilt or obligation. The “Good News” truly is good news to them and it refreshes their spirits and souls like never before. For further information please visit our website at

We are looking for a leader of leaders, someone who is good at building and equipping teams of volunteers and developing them. They will work closely with volunteers and ministry leaders while guiding, helping them to implement the vision, and overseeing the daily ministry.

We are looking for someone who is a great organizer, administrator and planner of events, meetings, and trainings. The Executive Pastor will train and develop leaders in the nursery, children, and youth areas.  He will continually invest in and touch base with our small group leaders.  He will develop policies, procedures, and systems for our Sunday morning service areas starting with ushers, greeters, coffee bar, and information center.  He will develop an assimilation process and discipleship strategy

As an added bonus if would be helpful if he had experience in the area of missions. We are looking for someone who can put together a team, along with a strategy to reach our local community and beyond. Again, setting up the trainings, guidelines, and policies along with handling the research, logistics, and administration of this area would be a real blessing.

We are looking for someone who can partner with us in the ministry. My Myers-Briggs personality profile says that I work best alone on a single task for long periods of time and that process frustrates me. I fit very well in the role of teaching pastor. So you could say that we are looking for the opposite of me. We are looking for someone who can work on multiple tasks at once who is not easily overwhelmed.

Overall the Executive Pastor will be responsible for the following:

1)    Strategic Leadership and Planning.

2)    Staff Supervision and Development.

3)    Administration.

4)    Marketing and Communications.

Minimum four year degree from a Bible College.

Personal Qualifications:

“Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.” You should have a hunger and desire to become more like Jesus. This means putting Jesus first, then your spouse, family, and lastly ministry. You should demonstrate Christian character and servant leadership as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4. We are looking for someone who fulfills Bill Hybels 3 C’s of character, competence, and chemistry. We are looking for someone who has a spirit of humility, a willingness to serve, and a desire to follow.
