Job Type:
Immanuel United Church of Christ
Job Description:

Immanuel Church in Needville, Texas, a Bible-believing, conservative, evangelical congregation, presently seeks a Youth Pastor to provide leadership for and oversight of the various ministries to children and youth of the congregation. In accordance with the Scriptural mandate to bring up future generations in the knowledge of God, this position seeks to purposefully direct attention to all ages of children and youth through the twelfth grade. This position requires both administrative and teaching abilities, as the individual will administer and oversee adult lay volunteers, as well as provide direct leadership to the ministry.

This position may be either full- or part-time. Exceptional candidates will be considered regardless of whether their desire is for full-time employment, part-time employment, or part-time employment that eventually leads to full-time employment.

The salary for this position is negotiable, and will be commensurate with education and experience.

Spiritual Requirements:

Candidates must confess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, the authenticity and genuineness of which is demonstrated in a lifestyle of consistent accountability, godliness, holiness, humility, and Christian maturity, as enumerated in the requirements for church leaders as revealed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Candidates must confess a belief in all of the Biblical doctrines summarized in the historic Apostles' Creed, and a willingness to “agree to disagree” about non-essentials. Letters of unqualified and unreserved recommendation from the candidate’s current pastor, as well as two lay leaders in the congregation in which membership is presently held, must be submitted with the candidate’s resume.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must possess a minimum of an associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or, if presently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program, the equivalent number of college hours completed (64 hours).

Experience Requirements:

Ordination or licensing by a congregation or denomination is helpful, but not required. Experience as a paid staff member of a multi-staff congregation is helpful, but volunteer experience in the ministries of a congregation is required.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Consistory, the church’s governing board, and with the advice and support of the Christian Education Committee, the Youth Pastor provides administration, direction, leadership, and teaching. The Youth Pastor is responsible for recruiting, training, and administering adult lay volunteers who oversee targeted audiences within the youth ministry, including the children and youth Sunday School programs, and the Wednesday afternoon Youth Club. The Youth Pastor provides general oversight for the Biblical and spiritual development of the youth and their family members. The Youth Pastor may also be called upon from time to time to provide general, Biblical counseling.

1.         Leadership

The position requires a person competent in giving direction for this ministry and coaching for the adult lay volunteers working in this ministry. This leadership must incorporate a solid cultural understanding of the youth of this generation, a good sense of how to minister to them, and a clear path of the specifics in how this will be accomplished. A clear ministry track must be established to allow for the measuring of spiritual maturity of various student age groups. The person must also be able to recruit, train, equip, and lead adult lay volunteers.

2.         Administration

The Youth Pastor must be able to administer and oversee all bookkeeping and other paperwork requirements associated with the ministry to youth of the congregation. This administrative responsibility also mandates a timely upkeep with all financial and legal requirements and preparing a monthly report of activities for presentation to the Consistory.

3.         Teaching

This position requires someone who is competent and effective in communicating with youth and adults, since both will be interacted with. The Youth Pastor will be the lead teacher for the senior high school Sunday School class, and will the teacher for the senior high youth class for the Wednesday Youth Club.

4.         Family care

The Youth Pastor will need to focus time on ministering to the families of the youth. This may include, but not be limited to, alcohol and drug abuse awareness, crisis intervention, parenting training, and support groups for parents of teenagers. Spending time with youth in non-church settings, such as attending extracurricular school activities, is also expected.

Relationship to Organization:

The Youth Pastor is directly responsible to the Consistory, the congregation's governing board. The Youth Pastor also works with the members of the Christian Education Committee, who provide general oversight to ensure the ministry’s goals, objectives, and vision are in line with that of the congregation.

Please send a current copy of your resume, as well as three letters of recommendation (one from your current pastor and two from lay leaders of your current congregation) to the following address:
