Director of Family Ministry



Purpose

The Director of Children & Families is responsible for performing administrative duties of children’s ministry, family ministries, and preschool and latch key programs with a high standard of integrity and confidentiality. 

 

Scope

The Director of Family Ministry will report to the Director of Administration.

 

Expectations

A successful candidate will:

  1. possess a minimum of two years of experience as a director of a child care program, children’s ministry program  in a church or business environment.
  2. possess a minimum of an associate’s degree in child care development, if working towards a bachelor’s degree.
  3. willing to pursue membership at Summit Station UMC
  4. display a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including publisher), database management, and other related applications.
  5. love Jesus, love the church and love people.
  6. display a cheerful, positive Christian attitude.
  7. exhibit a high standard of integrity and confidentiality.
  8. exhibit maturity and an ability to “think on his/her feet”.
  9. possess the ability to organize and prioritize effectively and meet required deadlines.
  10. maintain a family friendly environment.
  11. maintain open and clear communication with church staff and volunteers.
  12. help support and fulfill the mission, vision, core values, and goals of the church.
  13. be willing to occasionally work odd hours, as needed.
  14. perform all other duties assigned by the Youth Center Board and the SPRC.

 

 



Roles and Responsibilities
As a primary point person for families who have children in between birth to age 10, it is vitally important for the Director of Children and Families to be fully aware of and develop a team of individuals capable of managing each of the following areas of responsibility:


All Volunteers and Staff

  • Maintain servant information data including background checks
  • Provide training and shadowing experiences for servants
  • Create and communicate quarterly schedule with all servants
  • Create an atmosphere of teamwork and appreciation of service
  • Develop relationships with each team of servants
  • Work with committees to prepare for child centered events
  • Develop and distribute weekly lessons to servants
  • Equip and train servants to help create fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ
  • Ensure all resources are ready for weekly lessons
  • Create core CM team and meet with them monthly
  • Develop and adhere to a budget
  • Maintain open lines of communication with director of administration and other church staff
  • Develop positive relationships with families of SS UMC
  • Follow up with new families to SS UMC
  • Provide families with regular and consistent information about what is happening in CM
  • Help families understand and create home/church connections
  • Maintain servant information data including background checks
  • Provide training and shadowing experiences for servants
  • Create and communicate quarterly schedule with all servants
  • Create an atmosphere of teamwork and appreciation of service
  • Develop relationships with each team of servants
  • Work with committees to prepare for child centered events
  • Develop and distribute weekly lessons to servants
  • Equip and train servants to help create fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ
  • Ensure all resources are ready for weekly lessons
  • Create core CM team and meet with them monthly
  • Develop and adhere to a budget
  • Maintain open lines of communication with director of administration and other church staff
  • Help facilitate family outreach events such as the fall festival, royal ruckus, and vbs
  • Develop and implement family outreach ministries such as weekend backpack meal program, mommy and me days, other family oriented outreach
  • Develop and maintain recruitment
  • Develop and maintain positive relations within the schools & community


Preschool and Latch Key Specific Duties

  • Ensure employee records/documents are maintained properly on all latch key and preschool staff.
  • Assist with children when needed
  • Keep Board Updated & Prepare Agenda
  • Purchase needed items
  • Keep open communication with staff, church, and families clear
  • Work as a team to ensure areas are clean, safe & organized
  • Develop and adhere to a budget for programming
  • Provide lesson support to staff when needed
  • Implement a Title XX program
  • Complete the Step up to Quality Process
