Job Description:

Title: Worship Director

Position: 30 Hours Per Week

Reporting to: Senior Pastor

 

Overview:

Provide leadership to all worship ministries of First United Methodist Church with a particular focus on the Contemporary Worship ministry so the church can make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.



Contemporary Worship Leadership

  • Develop meaningful relationships with the people of First United Methodist Church.

  • Engage the congregation with a mix of current and traditional songs with a style that stays true to current trends in popular music including utilizing a variety of instruments and arrangements as well as leading the congregation in prayers, Bible reading, giving greetings or instructions.

  • Identify, recruit and empower new persons who are gifted and whom God may be calling to serve in the contemporary worship band.

  • Lead an efficient, well-organized, and positive weekly band rehearsal that builds the team both spiritually and musically by providing weekly schedules, recordings of music, and chord charts for all team members as well as communicate regularly to build a relationship of trust.



Worship Ministry Leadership

  • Oversee all other worship ministry staff: Choir Director and Accompanists.

  • Oversee the work of the Welcoming Team to ensure exceptional hospitality in all worship environments.

  • Oversee the work of the volunteer Worship Team in setting the design elements of the worship space.

  • Oversee the work of the media volunteers by scheduling and training the volunteers to create an excellent environment for worship.

  • Drive the creative development of all worship services including worship order, use of video, songs, media, lights.

  • Train and coordinate volunteer liturgists and musicians.

  • Lead the Student Ministry Worship team by recruiting and developing student musicians, and managing other details as needed.

  • Lead other worship services when needed such as funerals and seasonal worship services.

Administration

  • Manage the worship ministry budget.

  • Manage First United Methodist Church’s Planning Center Online account and CCLI.

  • Participate in regular church staff meetings, worship planning, and church leadership meetings



Qualifications

  • A dynamic personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Bible and a commitment to Wesleyan theology.

  • Experience witnessing to unchurched people about Christ’s love.

  • Exceptional musical ability in guitar and/or piano, vocals, and ability to creatively arrange music.

  • A self-starter, committed to excellence, experience recruiting, training, and empowering volunteers for ministry.

  • Exceptional relational skills.

Weekly Time Expectations: 30 Hours

Leading Sunday contemporary worship services-  4 hours

Weekly rehearsal-  3 hours

Prep work for worship leading- 10 hours

Youth Ministry Worship- 2 hours

Worship Team and Staff Planning-  2 hour

Administrative duties-  7 hours

Management of worship staff - 2 hours
