Job Description:

We are looking for our next Caring Director who will continue to provide pro-active Christ-centered care for all of our Caring Ministries by creating safe and welcoming environments, for our members and the community, so that people can find support and grow through the challenges and crises in life.  Please review the job description for more information on the different areas of responsibility this position oversees.

The Caring Director provides pro-active Christ-centered care for all of our Caring Ministries by creating safe and welcoming environments, for our members and the community, so that people can find support and grow through the challenges and crises in life. Having someone to care, to listen, and to share God’s love during these times may not change the circumstance, but provides strength and support to get through it.


On Thursday nights at Shepherd’s Gate, the church is filled with groups of people learning skills and finding support in each other through the challenges brought on by divorce, grief, relationship challenges, and past hurts. Our current LifeCare Support Groups for adults include DivorceCare by Steve Grissom and Kathy Leonard, Boundaries by Cloud & Townsend, Healing is a Choice by Stephen Arterburn and GriefShare. Support groups for kids and teens are offered at the same time and include DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) and Teens/Tweens Beyond Divorce (TBD).


LifeCare duties:
 Promote groups in the community and at Shepherd's Gate.
 Select, recruit, train, and supervise coaches.
 Oversee curriculum and coaches for all classes.
 Recruit participants from monthly SMILE program through Macomb County.
 Plan monthly supervision sessions with coaches.
 Troubleshoot challenges that arise with participants or volunteers.
 Continue to research and expand what we offer through additional classes based on the needs of the community.


Through one-to-one confidential caring relationships, Life2Life Coaches offer participants the space to heal, grow and find support.


Life2Life duties:
 Select, recruit, train, and supervise coaches.
 Oversee biweekly continuing education and supervision of coaches.
 Conduct evaluations with potential participants, we call them Carees, and refer to appropriate level of care (Life2Life, professionals in our area, or other).
 Troubleshoot challenges that arise with participants or volunteers.


MarriedLife is required for all couples wishing to be married by one of our pastors at Shepherd’s Gate. Each couple attends sessions with the Caring Director. Sessions include pre-marriage assessment, videos, books and discussions on preparing for marriage.


MarriedLife duties:
 Assist the pastors in pre-marriage counseling of all couples.
 Make contact with couples, manage schedule and conduct sessions.
 Create report for pastors and make recommendations.


Care University
Our Care University course is required for all Caring Ministry Coaches serving in LifeCare, Life2Life, MarriedLife and Pastoral Care Ministries. This dynamic eight week course offers intensive training in listening, biblical care, and more, and will equip coaches with practical skills and a solid approach for offering care to those in need.


Care University duties:
 Oversee teaching for Care University.
 Oversee all training materials.
 Select, recruit and train coaches.
 Promote class at Shepherd's Gate.
 Interview and place people interested in being a Caring Ministry Coach.


Staff Member | Shepherd’s Gate Church
As the Caring Director, you will be a member of the Ministry Staff. The Ministry Staff are the main decision making group in the church. Each Ministry Staff has volunteer leaders, or coaches, who help them make decisions (budget, goals, direction, etc) for their department. The Ministry Staff works together to set the entire church calendar, budget, etc. It is a team effort with both volunteer leaders and


Ministry Staff | Staff Member duties:
 Attend all meetings and church sponsored events as requested by the Executive Pastor.
 Be accessible and have an open door policy with staff, volunteers, members and guests.
 Assist Pastors and Pastoral Care Team in providing Caring Ministry type services to members as needed, usually in extreme situations.
 Oversee promotions and advertisement for Caring Ministry.
 Oversee Caring Ministry blog, Facebook and other social media outlets.
 Refer members to local Christian Counselors as needed.
 All other duties as requested by Executive Pastor.

 Understand that the goal is to love others unconditionally not to convert or apply spiritual pressure towards growth.
 Knowledgeable in computer programs such as Word, Excel, etc. or their Mac equivalent.
 Education: We prefer candidates with a Bachelor's degree and/or 2 plus years relevant experience. Preferred but not required is a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or other related field.
