Job Type:
BridgeWay Community Church
Job Description:

Who We Are:

BridgeWay was planted 14 years ago in Hamilton County, Indiana with a mission to change lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our community and across the world. Our vision is to multiply Kingdom Churches that connect God to people, people to communities, and communities to mission.

We have seen some success with the “If You Build It They Will Come” model for student ministry, but the ultimate success of our student ministry is not measured by what happens when they come, but when they leave. Upwards of eighty percent of students who “drop in” to youth groups while in high school will “drop out” of the church by the time they graduate from college. As we have wrestled through our own complicity in the problem, we recognize that nearly all of our students who have continued following Christ into adulthood have two things in common: Their families were connected into the life of Christ, and they were connected into the life of the church. With nearly 12,000 students in 5th–12th grade in our community, the potential is limitless. This generation deserves our best.

Albert Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.” If you would like to stop the student ministry insanity and make disciples in a church that is fanatical about God’s Kingdom, BridgeWay might be the right place for you.

What We Need:

1.  Acts 2 Leader:  Peter preached a good sermon that day and more than 3,000 people were baptized, but their lives were changed when they were connected into the life of the church. We don’t want you to lead an Acts 2 Student Ministry that is segregated from the church, but to lead a student ministry that is integrated into an Acts 2 Church.

2.  Ephesians 4 Equipper:  You will have to work hard, because the speed of the leader is the speed of the team. But if you are not equipping others, you and our ministry are headed for a crash. A pastor’s job is to equip God’s people to do the work of ministry, so that the body is built up. What matters most is not what you do, but who you do it through.

3.  Matthew 9 Shepherd:  Students really are “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” You need to feel compassion for each of them, but you cannot minister to all of them. The harvest will always be plentiful and the workers few, but when you ask The Lord of the harvest, he will send out workers into his harvest field.

4.  Romans 12 Disciple:  Like the members of our church, each of our staff members is broken. The Good News is that when we place ourselves on the altar as a living sacrifice, our lives will be continually transformed. God wants that in you, and our church needs that from you. God won’t do through you what he hasn’t already done in you.

Who We’re Looking For:

1.  Catalytic Leader:  You need enough charisma to attract students and adults, but not so much that they follow you and not Jesus. You have a track record of rallying the right people to the right vision, and God has used you to accomplish the right results.

2.    Effective Communicator:  You can communicate to a room full of students, but also to the parents who are ticked off their kid isn’t there. In all your communication, people can tell you have a passion for Jesus, God’s Word and students—in that order.

3.    Emotionally Intelligent:  There is book smart, but then there is people-smart. You understand how to connect with people and when you say or do something “people-stupid,” you have the know-how and humility to go back and make it right.

4.  Administratively Competent:  Competent, that’s all we really want. If really loved dotting crossing all the T’s and dotting all the I’s, you’d be an Executive Pastor or School Administrator. What we need is someone will bring all the kids on the missions trip back home in one piece.

5.  Credible Pastor:  When it comes to ministering to families in our church, we don’t want you to just be “The Youth Pastor,” we want you to be “A Pastor Pastor.” Of course you know how to hang with the kids, but you also have to have a heart for people of all ages.
