Job Description:

Sagebrush, in Albuquerque, NM, started in 1999 with current senior pastor, Todd Cook. When Sagebrush started Todd never desired for a large audience to preach to. Instead he continues to preach. “I don’t want an audience; I want an army”.

Like many church plants, for the first 8.5 years of Sagebrush’s history, they met in different locations. In 2007 they built their first building on their current property and in 2012 they expanded into their current facilities. Their heartbeat has been for the lost of their city since the first day, and that passion continues today.

Sagebrush has exploded in growth to an average of 11,600 attendees over their 9 campuses. Their campuses are between 15 minutes to 3 hours away (including San Pedro, Belize which is only 2 years old and 300 people). Sagebrush’s main campus is in Riverside and has about 7,500 people over 5 services every weekend. This past year, over 1,100 people were baptized and the growth continues! This past year one of their campuses was able to purchase a building and there are more plans and dreams for other campuses to move from portable systems to a more stable meeting space.

In the past couple years since Riverside opened their new building (kids rooms, 2,100-seat auditorium, and bookstore mainly for Bibles and curriculum), they’ve continued to experience incredible growth. Missions have expanded into almost every continent and over 100 people went on a trip in 2014.

Sagebrush’s mission is clear and communicated on every level, from their website, to TV monitors in their lobby, to announcements in the services, to First Steps printed material, to a 2015 printed material. They are deeply committed “to know Christ and to make him known.”

Sagebrush has quickly grown throughout the life of the church, but especially since launching multiple sites in 2008. They now have 9 campuses around the Albuquerque area and one in Belize. Their multisite strategy is the “franchise” model, meaning all campuses share the Sagebrush name, vision, messages from the Riverside campus, and ministries. New campuses are very likely in the future...until every person in Albuquerque has the opportunity to accept or reject Jesus.

Sagebrush as a church is strongly lead, phenomenally organized, and brilliantly communicated.

In the student ministries, it really is like starting with a blank slate like a church plant, yet there are estimated well over 1,000 high school students in their midst! There are 4 main high schools near the Riverside campus that are teeming with potential.

Sagebrush’s team believes that while program is important, relationships and discipleship is what matters most. The weekend service is the hook for students, but discipleship best happens in the context of relationships and groups.

The PMT is so passionate about the success and development of the student ministries that they have a commitment to resource and work with the team however possible. “Dream your team and see it happen” and they’ll throw resources at the ministry. They already have a phenomenal student space with great technology; they simply don’t have the students filling the space.

The student ministries team from across the campuses collaborates on the curriculum and work through the same curriculum. Andrew Poe, Executive SM Pastor, meets with the team every other week and 1on1 with each staff member every other week.
