Purpose:

Develop, plan, and direct various expressions of worship at First Pres including Sunday services, in partnership with the Senior Pastor, other staff, and lay leadership.

 

Creative/Programmatic Responsibilities:

  • Inform and steward the overarching vision and practices for regular and special worship opportunities at First Pres.
  • Promote efforts to integrate the larger life of the church, including our commitment to Christian Formation and Missional Engagement, in weekly worship.
  • Deepen our own worship vocabulary and facility through the active cultivation of a wide and diverse range of worship resources, connections, and networks.
  • Assist in the development, preparation, and communication of themes and seasons in worship, including the management of all publicity related to worship opportunities.
  • Facilitate and actively participate in worship planning efforts, shepherding the process from concept to execution, including oversight of all printed and projected media.
  • Provide individual worship preparation, input, and assistance, as needed, with preaching pastor, musicians, artists, and others involved in worship.
  • Participate in worship leadership where gifts, passion, and/or needs are evident.
  • Ensure regular worship debrief and assessment; guide implementation of ideas and suggestions for future expression.

 

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Oversee scheduling of worship leaders, assistants and participants, music teams, choirs, greeters/ushers, welcome and prayer teams, etc.
  • Curate overall worship aesthetic and experience, ensuring attention to details and logistics, including sound, set-up, lighting, media, flowers, fine arts, candles, etc.
  • Coordinate all aspects of special worship elements, including baptism, communion, commissioning, personal witness, multi-media presentations, etc.
  • Facilitate Sunday pre-worship meetings and prayer for both services.
  • Provide financial management and oversight for worship-related budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Reports to:                   Senior Pastor

 

Direct Reports:             Director of Contemporary Worship Ministries, Director of Choral Ministries,
Organist, Audiovisual Supervisor, Administrative Assistant for Worship

 

Desired Qualities and Experience:

Education:                   Bachelor’s and related Master’s Degree or higher

  • A growing and deepening faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Able to articulate a clear theology of reformed worship and thoughtful philosophy of worship ministry.
  • Comfort and facility in a wide array of worship styles and contexts, including traditional, contemporary, multicultural, and global expressions of worship.
  • Demonstrated experience in worship organization and leadership in a church setting.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational experience, including leadership and supervision of staff and volunteers, effective team building and group process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail; able to follow projects, ideas, and needs through to completion.
  • Manifest a healthy attention to work/life balance, personal spiritual practices, and times of rest and recreation.
