Praise Leader/ Praise Band Leader (part-time salary (15-20 hours/week)


Reporting Relationship:

Immediate supervisor is the Senior Pastor of FIRST church

Reports to the HR Sub-Team of the Leadership Board as requested


Overview of Major Responsibilities:

Envision, organize and implement a quality modern worship program/service for FIRST church. This includes leading, staffing, directing, and organizing a growing vital worship ministry for our contemporary service which transforms people into fully submitted followers of Christ.


Specific Responsibilities:



            Promote the mission of the church through worship

            Develop, implement and evaluate ministry goals related to the worship program (every 6 months)

Attend continuing education events related to this position (at least 1 per year)

Lead Worship with the Praise Band at the Contemporary service

Develop and maintain a personal growth plan



            Multiply our worship ministry by regularly recruiting, training and supervising servant leadership

            Lead through a team-based ministry approach

            Involve as many talented, gifted persons as possible in all areas of the worship ministry

            Provide spiritual and skill development for all worship teams



Oversee all teams related to the contemporary worship ministry including Worship Arts (Praise band)

Contemporary Worship Design (Message, Decorations, Communications and Budget)



            Help design worship services as part of the Worship Design team

            Plan worship schedule 6 months in advance in collaboration with the senior pastor

            Insure accurate records are kept for Copyright Licensing video/music etc…

            Organize worship elements of major events Christmas, Easter, and other large worship events

            Communicate all worship elements to all worship teams in order to provide quality worship services



Possess a strong faith in Christ and a clear calling to worship leading and directing

Be a member that models standards and expectations of leadership within FIRST church including a personal devotional life, worship attendance, tithing, serving/witnessing, small group participation, and a dedication to personal development and a healthy lifestyle



Have a deep sense of integrity, a positive attitude, and be spiritually mature and growing

Demonstrate leadership and teaching ability and express strong relational skills

Have ability to develop teams and apprentice leaders

Demonstrated skill vocally and instrumentally (guitar or/and keyboard)

Value diverse music styles from contemporary artists and providing leadership appropriately

Have knowledge of vocal, instrumental, and keyboard music, tone, harmony, and hymnody

Have knowledge of media, video, drama and other elements of worship design

Have knowledge of the Planning Center suite of worship tools.

Be creative, innovative and a team player


Education and Experience:

            Associates degree or equivalent experience (in music ministry or related field preferable)

            2+ years experience in worship leading/design/performance preferred




Lead weekly Worship Design meeting

Attend weekly Sermon Prep meeting

Attend weekly FIRST staff meeting

Attend weekly Program Development meeting

Attend other meetings connected to worship as needed

Attend other staff functions such as retreats, worship, etc. as requested


Understandings of the Job:

The job description is subject to review and change especially as the program grows

Light clerical and administrative support is available

This position is considered probationary for 90 days after which the position may be terminated by either party upon provided a thirty day notice in writing of the desire to terminate services
